Where did the orange Nike Cardinal hat come from? Looks like a signal caller's hat. Sometimes BSU will run 3 bench QBs with different color hats to signal in plays. The off colors are easier to spot from the huddle.

I posted 4 wins on a public internet and Im taking alot of heat from the cheerleaders. I look at we played last year cause we do not know how were going to play this year. We can say well we should be better here or there etc but until we see it we do not know. We do know that if we had better QB play last year we could have easily been a 6 win team maybe 7. So if Kelly or Hatcher or the two headed beast turns out to be better than paddock then 6 wins is very reachable and probably not unlikely. We gotta see that happen though

I have no clue what to expect. The MAC can be pretty random from year to year, and with all the transfers that adds to the unpredictability. The QB situation is an unknown.
If we do only win 4 games it will definitely be time to move on from Neu.

Need to go for broke. That's the thing--Neu/Lynch have demonstrated they don't go for broke, they play it safe. the massive comeback and OT win vs NIU showed what the offense could do when it went balls to the wall and the guys were allowed to just make plays but then we went back into a safety shell after that and faltered down the stretch. Again. Like we have every season but 2020.

I'm banking on it. If you have a big lead, running the ball and eating up clock is just fine. If you have a dominant defense, protecting a lead and not giving the other team a chance to get a turnover and score, that's fine.
But even with a great RB we were not good enough to be favorites to get one first down after another and do that. And if our theory was a ball control passing game, we just did not execute well enough. We did not use play action at all well, and the QB was not adept at RPO.
If we can just execute in those two areas that allow ball control, and achieve more balance with a threat to pass that avoids running the ball into stacked line we can improve. But then there is the issue of the defense being able to stop the opponent so a smaller lead is enough.
In our best years, our offense was a threat to score on every possession, that seems to be the MAC formula for success. Last team with the ball is a real threat to score and win! I'd be delighted but also amazed to see the defense allow us to not have to need those heroics. Or quite so often need them.

Nailed it. This is exactly what we need to do with an important factor-you have to have the personnel to do it. And we just might. The two-deep at the three positions necessary to execute that kind of offense (QB, TE, RB) we seem to have. (We will have to see at WR.) That kind of offensive game plan would keep us on the field and more importantly keep our defense on the sideline. I thought whatever breakdowns we saw on defense had a lot to do with how much they were on the field.

Some truth in idea we have been built on ball control and just couldn't do it. Somebody here must know the stats on time of possession in big MAC games.
I'm not sure but the soft pass defense seems to be based on a bend but not break idea that requires not giving up big plays and getting very tough in the red zone. That hasn't exactly worked.
But whether true or not, whatever our defense, MAC FB always seems to put premium on offense that scores on most of it's possessions and I can't remember a MAC team that could recruit such good athletes to dominate on defense.
We have to be good on offense.
