Not sure if anyone noticed, but our top recruit got drafted in the 15th round by the Brewers. I wonder if he will take the money or go to school?

Man, that's great for him and not good for us. Maybe if the bonus money isn't good enough he'll give us a shot.

The allure of the money has cause plenty of kids to go too soon over the years and they never make it.

The allure of the money has cause plenty of kids to go too soon over the years and they never make it. Never? Maybe "often" would apply. Baseball is a sport where there is a reasonable choice of development paths.
How much money is a good question, but turning down big money hardly guarantees success. It's a steep pyramid either way you go.
What turning down modest bonus might do is provide an education, and still keep the dream alive. That's the best argument for turning money down.

Never, pertaining to many of them, not all. Long history of bonus babies never getting to the level projected, and late rounders making it big. And of course a huge number of players never make it past A ball and have to work at Sears in the off season just to eat.

Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life.

Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life. You're not wrong. I'd love to have been able to play baseball as a "job" for years.

Of course, but the same kid going to college can fail at that level and never get a nickel and have a chance to live his dream. More often they end up successful in college but NOT getting to the level projected in college and not getting anywhere special.
There are two paths to success. I'll join in advocating for the college route because that route gives you the education which makes a long term difference unless you reach the most lofty expectations and hopes you have.
