DI teams keep around 35-36 on a roster. In 2024, the NCAA will allow them to keep 40 players on the roster. Some of the reasons: - Many athletes still having an additional year of eligibility available as the result of the NCAA rulings related to the pandemic.
- MLB reducing the size of the MLB Draft from 40 rounds to 20 rounds.
- The decrease in the number of minor league teams from 162 to 120.
Scholarship considerations:
- 32 players will be allowed to receive scholarships – up from the normal limit of 27 in Division I.
- The additional scholarship athletes counting against the team scholarship limit must be included in the maximum team limit of 11.7 scholarships and must be provided the minimum scholarship value of 25%.
Looks like Ball State lost 20 of their 36 rostered players. - Graduates 7
- Drafted 4
- Transfers 6 (only 3 appear to have a new team)
- Quit/Retired 3
The incoming additions have not officially been placed on the official roster as of today, but 11 names have been mentioned on Twitter.
I'm sure there will be some walk-ons or last minute additions. A couple of transfers may not be picked up, but does BSU want them back?

Along with the 11 new players mentioned on Twitter, there are another 9 mentioned on the BSU Baseball web site: ballstatesports.com/news/2023/8/14/baseball-cardinals-add-11-to-2023-recruiting-class.aspx

Tons of talent in this class, but that's a lot to pull together in one year.
Hallquist is a freaking animal. Northwoods League POTY is no joke.

In spite of the various challenges the team has faced over the past two or three seasons injuries to pitchers, poor scheduling by the conference etc. the team has continued to be one of the top three teams in the MAC. I have faith that the beat will go on.
