There is a good article up on The Athletic previewing the MAC. Specific to Ball State, the opinion was if we make a run it would be because of our defense. Also, the article’s one bold prediction: Ball State finishes 2nd in MAC West (presumably behind Toledo).

2nd seems like a pipe dream but tgey are not off on the D part. Our D actually seems pretty good. know can the secondary hold up and play well in live game action is tge wuestion. Its the best coached position on the team so Im hopeful

Now next question is can the offense keep the D off the field long to let them have a chance. In todays game no Defense is holding a team forever its just not possible anymore the offenses are eventually going to score. Im less confident in that

It will be a major surprise if our offense can do anything at all beyond Cooper running wild. We have big question marks at QB and WR, and of course the biggest question mark of all, HC and OC. If Hatcher is Paddock 2.0 we are royally screwed. I hope he's better than has been reported in camp. We absolutely must push the ball down the field and free up our TE's for the underneath stuff. If we can't (or won't - See Lynch, Kevin) then safeties will spend all day in the box against us and linebackers will be able to cover up our TE's.
So, look for a big year from our running game and it'll produce maybe 4 wins. If we can throw it maybe we can get to that "magic" 6 wins. (Mike seems more invested in getting to 6 and playing up getting bowl bids than he is going for broke and getting 7 + wins. We will not compete for MACC bid. We just won't. Toledo and EMU will freaking steamroll us. Feels like every other team in the league got impact transfers and we..... didn't.
I hope I'm incredibly wrong but the vibes coming out of camp are the QBs aren't exactly lighting it up and most completions are within 6 yards of the LOS. Semonza may be our best QB overall but does Mike have the guts to say F it and roll with him? Highly doubt that. So I hope Hatcher has a huge year and can replicate his freshman year at Ark. St.

Feels like every other team in the league got impact transfers and we..... didn't. Can't totally agree with that statement. We upgraded what we had at several positions. Are they major impact players, I don't know but there are several transfers that will be starting, so we at least made some strides. As you stated, coaching might still be a bigger problem. |

His stats were not much better than our QB last year, except in running. Hatcher is not much of an upgrade. |

Too many quick 3 and outs have doomed us over the past few seasons. |
