So he's throwing away something like $100,000 leaving UCLA, but he stands to at least double that if he can hook up with a practice squad. And the NFL minimum for a roster spot is $700,000+ even if you're just on special teams. So it's a gamble with a good payoff if it hits.

tough decision with being the 24th best RB. don't see him as a NFL RB. probably in no-man's land since he will probably not be drafted.

I know the money and prestige are good at UCLA, but if he had stayed at BSU or transferred to a different conference school, I'd think he'd have a much higher chance of getting drafted.

I'm a terrible judge of NFL talent but I would be very surprised if he isn't drafted based on the mock drafts floating around. Most have him taken in rounds 5-7. As for his success? I wasn't sure he'd have success at UCLA and he proved me wrong. I wouldn't bet against him. I wish he would've stayed at BSU for another year. I guess the million dollar question is whether going to UCLA increased his "worth" and gets him drafted higher. A 4th round pick will get about $750K more over his 4 year rookie deal than a 7th round pick. The first pick of the fourth round receives an estimated payment of $814,377 as part of a four-year, $4.11 million deal. The range of salaries for fourth-round picks, including signing bonuses, is $733,600 to $814,377. The top choice in the fifth round receives a four-year, $3.64 million deal with a salary of about $698,619 per year. Payscales for the fifth round vary from $669,444 to $698,619. The wages for players chosen in the sixth round range from $642,353 to $662,972. Last but not least, seventh-round selections earn a paycheck between $628,873 and $638,424. www.sportskeeda.com/nfl/how-much-4th-7th-round-nfl-draft-picks-make-first-contract-nfl-draft-salaries-explored

The only reason Steele didn't finish with comparable numbers at UCLA was the platoon situation in their backfield. Steele is big, insanely strong, good yards after contact, super fit and has better burst than his size would indicate. He is easily the best RB prospect who played at BSU to play in the NFL. No offense to Huntley but Steele is better. How he performs at the combine will determine his draft status but he's a day 2 or 3 pick.

No way he’s a day 2 pick(2nd & 3rd round). RB’s come dime a dozen and their shelf life in the NFL is short. If you’re a late round RB you better have special teams tape and he has none. I think he goes undrafted and goes to camp somewhere.

I would think that NFL teams draft based on the perceived potential of the player to fill their primary offense/defense position, and figure that if the player has the tools for that, they can be taught to play special teams while they are developing or serving as a back up. I don't imagine that special teams tape is a requirement for any draft position. Well....kickers.

Jahwan Edwards, Caleb Huntley and Marcus Merriweather were all stud backs for us. Huntley really developed a burst in his last year that surprised a lot of teams. But, in my uneducated opinion, I believe Steele is a better athlete, stronger and more versatile especially as a receiver. I agree that he's probably not a 2nd or 3rd round pick but I could see him go in the 4th or 5th round and if he ends up as an UDFA he will be tough to cut as long as he doesn't get hurt.

He doesn’t have great pass catching ability, not enough to get drafted.
He’ll definitely get a camp invite, and hopefully he can impress the coaches.

He does have pass catching ability. The staff used him 4x more than they relied on Huntley to receive. His 2022 receiving stats went down, because he became more of the focus from most defenses BSU faced that season. Defenses were always shadowing him.

I'm also expecting Colson Yankoff to rise up....in the draft rankings. His path to an NFL roster is well-lubricated and he will unexpectedly explode into the spotlight on day 1 of the draft. Media Availability - T.J. Harden, Colson Yankoff Video of Harden and Yankoff...but don't worry, it's Youtube, not PornHub. In the first 10 seconds of the video, Colson notes that he "feels really good" about having "things under his belt" I'll bet he does.

Steele ran a 4.77 at the Colts local pro day. Going to be UDFA.
