Gee, mired in 3rd place, not a lot of chance to move up.
Fire the coach?

The year after 2018, someone at Ball State didn't do their job and failed to respond to this ranking survey. SO BSU fell way back the next year. We're still recovering (it'll take years if we are even able to recover). I believe part of the ranking process looks at previous years ranking.

Yes, I think you are right on them looking at the previous years. I recall them failing to respond because of an expired forwarding address or something? Just absolute negligence on the administration's part. Made us lose our top 100 public university status too. I think we are 116 now.

Agree. I know "personnel changes" happened because of that incident. We had caught up to OU as we tied them that year. That's where we should be. Pretty pathetic on BSU's part.

Ohio has had funding cuts last couple of years. All schools. Hurting Miami I know first hand
BSU is not exactly flush, has had RIF with faculty buyout. Less staff now, more contract faculty. Significant program cuts.
Push for lower admission requirements with reduced enrollment. IU, PU fighting us harder for better students.
No surprise we and other MAC schools lower rated.
Less fat to cut as revenue reduced.
BSU doing well in face of big issues, but it's going is hard

Akron for example is barely scraping by and has been for a number of years.

Approved by the BOT on Friday.

Approved by the BOT on Friday. I am all for staff salary increase. But compared to other MAC schools, salaries are not 3rd ranked. We are doing some things very well but budget is a problem, and specifically, I do not expect the new model of lower quality students with fewer tenure faculty and more contract faculty teaching heavier loads at lower pay, to be a combination that produces better student outcomes. Or to support high rankings nationally for our programs.
This is top down from the legislature which is focused on graduation rate not quality of the graduates. Result is grade inflation, fewer hours in programs, and students pushed through to graduation, sometimes in the wrong major since all the incentives are to avoid taking extra hours to find a new major.

So, we no longer FLY? Assuming I should no longer wear my Harvard of Muncie sweat shirt.

Up until 2019, BSU was usually around the 170s in a tie with Louisville and Texas Tech. Missing that report really hurt. Ohio was much higher than the 170s themselves. Wonder what caused them to drop so much. Miami usually was listed just inside the Top 100.

There's a lot more to that story than just failing to submit the report...extremely egregious behavior by BSU representatives towards US News people as well.

Care to elaborate without naming names or being too specific?

I mean, IMPOSSIBLE, really... that journalists would purposefully rank a deserving school lower than it should, just because some BSU representatives behaved like jackwagons. These lists are like the "Who's who..." books they used to sell. They'll put you in it if you buy the book so you can see your name in it, and feel like you've accomplished something. Much like when Navin Johnson saw his name in the phone book for the first time.
