First round of the assumption game.. Couple months early but we know this season is basically over..
Semonza will be starter next year if staff remains the same. If OC changes depends on hire the more conventional the guy the better chance he stays. If staff is gone likely hood of transfer rises
Kelly stays with new staff very high likelyhoid of transfer with current staff. Current staff does not like understand or want to make full time switch to full open rpo
Hunt and Koziol Hunt out for year but very high likely both cash in
Cooper depends on the rules if he does not have to sit a year likely gone. Im not sure of new portal rule from a couple months ago
Wr Oline etc none left to care
D see above

That Neu sees no issue with Lynch's play calling is just blind loyalty. With that in mind, and Kev having no clue how to run an effective RPO scheme (and it's hard to completely change to that midstream anyway) we can assume the offense will remain mostly a pointless crap show save some big plays from Kelly with his legs, or Cooper somehow becomes what he was at Kent. Reading between the lines-- Neu has discussed a medical redshirt with Robinson. He has NOT discussed a medical redshirt with Hunt = Hunt's probably already indicated he's entering the draft. Koziol-- why would he stick around at this point--we can't get him the ball. Cooper, man, was he just really good in a different system at Kent or is he not that good, or did we make him as ineffective as he's been? If it's on us, kudos to Lynch and Neu neutering the best returning back in the league. He was a prized get. I will say he's not as fast or quick as I thought he'd be, but then maybe we just aren't blocking for him. WR/Oline - nothing special, need to hit portal VERY hard to try to convince some difference makers to come. (highly unlikely) Defense - secondary is a crap show. Youth/injuries/Scheme all contributing. Dline - somedays they are effective, some days they are not. Expected more. Linebackers - once Coll went down it totally changed the dynamics there.
All in all, EVERYTHING hinges on if they commit to building a successful program and bite the bullet and pull the plug, or, if they shy away from change because, money. (which other programs similar to our always seem to find, somehow, when they need to change directions) Mearns is very very very tight with money. Like, suffocating, so I'm pretty skeptical there. If Neu is back, Kelly is gone, maybe a lot of guys are gone. Does it matter that much if Neu could actually recruit the portal much more effectively than he has? Doubtful since the staff would be pretty much the same and all we'd see would be more of the same. If he were willing to part ways with Lynch or put him back as RB coach and take away play calling and hire an actual modern offensive mind, maybe things could improve? Maybe?
Bring in a new HC and staff, and I'm betting Mitchell has plenty of contacts with competent coaches who could build a winner, and then move up, like it should go, then we'd all be pretty happy. A competent HC from a better football league, like Sunbelt or SEC, from whence Mitchell came, could revitalize us pretty quickly.
Ah, just spittin' into the wind here.....

Let's just play QB. We have a running phenom that might flourish in a new system, a freshman that has shown to be as good or better than we thought and a new recruit that might be the awesome savior of all and a potential new coordinator and/or staff that might like a "whatever" offensive system....... This scenario alone is enough to make a coach's head explode.

Can't disagree with the fact of how much COULD be done in some different world where we had just a few more million to throw at the problem.
Being pessimistic that we can do it, I definitely agree.
The overriding assumption here that is a big part of all this is that we are stuck in the limbo of MAC FB until something changes dramatically in FBS. We can be mediocre competitive, which is the goal (whatever they say) of 8 or 9 MAC schools. I wish we could return to the day I enjoyed so much with BSU just entering the MAC and able to be competitive.
If we blow this upcoming transition, we could sink to the very bottom, I would hate that. I believe a couple of MAC programs have essentially come to accept that, and sadly that could be the "right" course. My maybe is that MAYBE we can find an answer within the present budget which is overblown for FB anyway, where we get lucky and beat the odds for a few years. Can't make me more optimistic than that.

First round of the assumption game.. Couple months early but we know this season is basically over... What a great and promising set of assumptions for people to work with...although totally accurate I think.
Just add in how screwed it is to make the bright projections we're coming up with that maybe our future is surviving in a conference in a near untenable position. One in the MAC where we are married to long term being at the bottom of FBS, and somehow beating the odds of celebrating low probability of consistent MAC success.

second thoughts on Hunt-- while he could certainly declare for the draft it seems more likely he's going to GET PAID in the portal, show out at a P5 school and get taken high in the draft after that. Either way he's going to get some serious coin.
I feel really bad for Cooper.

Either way he's going to get some serious coin. I feel really bad for Cooper. He might be the biggest case where play calling and scheme have hurt. Had we generated a good passing game, he would have done better, too. Without that we were not going to be able to make him look good, and certainly didn't have the horses to ride him the way we could Carson Steele.

Well looks like we are back to scheduling Anderson University. We did that once in the 1950's. You guys really did it. A complete doom and gloom and post. I agree with all of it.

Listen one thing that seems to have happened this week is the staff and players to an extent have laid it all out there and for the first time have said this is what we have and this is what we can do. There has been a level of honesty from everyone and some of the cliche stuff is gone. We can call roll over go out like pussies or fight and maybe pick up a cheap win or two. The guys playing are not going to quit and the staff are going to try to do what they can with something they are not comfortable with frankly do not know.

Why they recruited Kelly and later Cobb is a real mystery. Maybe they thought we can morph these guys into what we know. It didnt work. At least now they can at least kinda make it right for Kelly give him 6 games to get some film. If the staff stays and he chooses to stay its on him when its Semonza next year. Its no big secret thats the plan. Scary part is without portal hits whos semonza going to throw too. We gotta uograde o line and Wrs or were having a different but similar convo.. If we get a brand new staff and clean slates for all spring ball will be wild

Regarding the possible changes in the coaching staff, I would say my experience would be that there are at least 3 general types of administrators (or ADs).
1. Incompetent ones
2. Competent ones
3. People who know how to get shit done despite having a room full of people giving them countless reasons why those things can't be done
I guess we'll see where Mitchell lands.

In bureaucracy it is convincing the powers to be to do those things, too.
