That Neu sees no issue with Lynch's play calling is just blind loyalty.
With that in mind, and Kev having no clue how to run an effective RPO scheme (and it's hard to completely change to that midstream anyway) we can assume the offense will remain mostly a pointless crap show save some big plays from Kelly with his legs, or Cooper somehow becomes what he was at Kent.
Reading between the lines-- Neu has discussed a medical redshirt with Robinson. He has NOT discussed a medical redshirt with Hunt = Hunt's probably already indicated he's entering the draft.
Koziol-- why would he stick around at this point--we can't get him the ball.
Cooper, man, was he just really good in a different system at Kent or is he not that good, or did we make him as ineffective as he's been? If it's on us, kudos to Lynch and Neu neutering the best returning back in the league. He was a prized get. I will say he's not as fast or quick as I thought he'd be, but then maybe we just aren't blocking for him.
WR/Oline - nothing special, need to hit portal VERY hard to try to convince some difference makers to come. (highly unlikely)
Defense - secondary is a crap show. Youth/injuries/Scheme all contributing.
Dline - somedays they are effective, some days they are not. Expected more.
Linebackers - once Coll went down it totally changed the dynamics there.
All in all, EVERYTHING hinges on if they commit to building a successful program and bite the bullet and pull the plug, or, if they shy away from change because, money. (which other programs similar to our always seem to find, somehow, when they need to change directions) Mearns is very very very tight with money. Like, suffocating, so I'm pretty skeptical there.
If Neu is back, Kelly is gone, maybe a lot of guys are gone. Does it matter that much if Neu could actually recruit the portal much more effectively than he has? Doubtful since the staff would be pretty much the same and all we'd see would be more of the same. If he were willing to part ways with Lynch or put him back as RB coach and take away play calling and hire an actual modern offensive mind, maybe things could improve? Maybe?
Bring in a new HC and staff, and I'm betting Mitchell has plenty of contacts with competent coaches who could build a winner, and then move up, like it should go, then we'd all be pretty happy. A competent HC from a better football league, like Sunbelt or SEC, from whence Mitchell came, could revitalize us pretty quickly.
Ah, just spittin' into the wind here.....
