As has been the case for the last 23 years, BSU is not really a contender for the MAC championship and NCAA berth. And as usual it is not realistic to have ever expected championship contention this year because reasons.
So, also as usual, we have to cast our attention and imagination around to find college basketball things to be interested in. In the past, we have found Bane, Longwood jokes, having nearly the worst non-conf schedule on the planet, the Hartford Mafia, etc. This year, might I suggest the question of....who is the worst MAC Michigan team? The three of them are bringing up the rear of the MAC at numbers 313, 323, 332. Really really bad. A closely related question is....will any non-Michigan MAC team fall below a MAC Michigan team.
Ok, it's not much, but just trying to help.

You could always try discussing the team we have.
That team seems to have some interesting players, and I think will play hard, deserve support.
Watching players and teams improve over the year can be entertaining.
Sure, maybe not favorites to be real contenders, but at the end of the year they have some chance to be dangerous in Cleveland.

Perhaps we can analyze our KenPom ranking change throughout the year? Currently we sit at 217. I think I heard David Eha say during the ODU game that last season we ended up 100 spots higher compared to the end of Whitford’s last season? Not sure if that’s true or not? If we increase by another 100 this year I would be shocked.
For reference, Ohio, Kent, and Toledo are all ranked about 100 spots higher than us in KenPom right now.

We are in the middle, far below those teams, now. At same time we are 100 spots above the bottom teams...
All these ratings are way too early to tell a lot. I think the rank order of teams and grouping seem about right, but how much different they are is hard to tell.
your suggestion is a good one.

It looks like the face smack will happen with ISU and Minn.

Minnesota has always been a hard place to play. Odd court, raised about 3 feet over level of benches and scorers table. Players know to take a tumble...Mike Lewis will know how disorienting it is, but no real way to acclimate to it.

I guess tonight’s game served its purpose….get the bench plenty of clock. Loved Lewis’ timeout 90 seconds in. Anderson continues to impress. Jihad struggled against a NAIA center. Jones, Pearson & Bailey were solid. Brown is an athlete with length & huge upside. Middleton dribbles just a little too much for my liking but is a good backup point guard. As others have said before, Bell is explosive & a freak athlete. That was a helluva dunk….but still only worth 2 points.

Work in Progress is on the money.
Whole team, but guys like Bell, Brown, Middleton have good upside.
Doughty will be fine. Jones already fits, can shoot, but is not looking for his shot.
On the who knows page. The Euro needs to learn all the words for defense. Adams? Watts is out when we need experience off the bench the most.

I think Adams will be a candidate for being encouraged to transfer. He's a long way off. Jones will be a complete player once he settles in and plays with confidence. I like how he plays. Doughty needs time to catch up from his injury. We'll see how he looks in February. I don't see him being a starter this year but if he can provide competent minutes off the bench by then that'll be big. He'll have to improve his footwork.
