OTOH, how could anyone be really accurate on player ratings?
The other thing is that there just isn't enough incentive to a national publication to follow the minor leagues. Up to now it's been HS players. Players who are in many cases off the radar, and the others almost always marginal at best for big schools
The portal transfers are a different story. Now you have players with performance records, easier to evaluate.

OTOH, how could anyone be really accurate on player ratings? The other thing is that there just isn't enough incentive to a national publication to follow the minor leagues. Up to now it's been HS players. Players who are in many cases off the radar, and the others almost always marginal at best for big schools The portal transfers are a different story. Now you have players with performance records, easier to evaluate. Well said. Unless the HS recruits attend a national camp by one of the ratings services, they will not receive as much attention. Some of the national analysts will attend games to see players for themselves, but there are times the grades are given strictly off of film and offers. Also keep in mind the majority of the analysts never coached or played football. That’s mind blowing to me. I’ve listed below what a star means to 247 and Rivals. 247 even says why everyone and their brother is a 3 star. The sticking point of a low 3 star at Rivals is all-conference candidate and pro potential. That’s why I said earlier when they rate most G5 players a 2 star it aligns with their rating. Of course there will be some misses just like all ratings service. Take it for what it’s worth. 247Sports Rating Explanations Five-stars (98-110 rating): The top 32 players in the country to mirror the 32 first round picks in the NFL Draft. These are 32 players that we believe are the most likely to be drafted in the first round from each recruiting class. The full list of 32 with five-star ratings typically isn’t complete until the final ranking. Any player with a rating of more than 100 is considered a “franchise player” and one that does not come around in every recruiting class. Four-stars (90-97 rating): These are players that we believe are the most likely to produce college careers that get them drafted. By National Signing Day, this number is typically in the range of 350 prospects, roughly the top 10 percent of prospects in a given class. Three-stars (80-89 rating): This is where the bulk of college football prospects are found and it incorporates a large range of ability levels, all of whom we consider as possible NFL players long term. A high three-star (87-89): is considered a player with significant NFL upside who expect to be an impact college football player. A mid three-star (84-86): is a player that we consider to be a capable starter for a Power Five football team and an impact player at the Group of Five level. A low three-star (80-83): is a player that we consider to be a potential contributor at a Power Five program but a probable Group of Five starter with impact potential. Two-stars (70-79 rating): These are prospects that we consider to be FBS-level players with very limited NFL potential. What does the numerical Rivals Rating (RR) mean? 6.1 = Five-star prospect 6.0-5.8 = Four-star prospect 5.7-5.5 = Three-star prospect 5.2-5.4 = Two-star prospect 6.1 Franchise Player: considered one of the elite prospects in the country, generally among the nation's top 30-35 players overall, a potential first-team All American candidate and a player deemed to have first round NFL potential. 6.0-5.8 All American Candidate: considered one of the next-tier elite prospects in the country, generally among the nation’s top 300-325 prospects overall, a national All American candidate and a player deemed to have first to third round NFL potential 5.7-5.5 All Region Selection: considered among the region’s top prospects and generally among the nation’s top 800-850 prospects overall, a potential All-Conference candidate and a player deemed to have mid to low-end pro potential and ability to impact at the college level. 5.2-5.4 Low End FBS prospect: considered a mid-major prospect with limited pro potential and expected to contribute 1-2 years at a high level maximum or often as a role player. *At the end of National Signing Day, any prospect that signs with an FBS program, and we have not evaluated, will be assigned a 5.2 Rivals Rating (RR).

Until this staff decides once and for all on a QB and scheme this is just fandom fodder. Even when they do, who feels confident after 8 years we will develop players and our play calling on offense to be dangerous? Not me. Plus we lost our DC who was our best staff member by a mile. Who feels like his replacement is going to be better? This will all be fun to follow over the spring and summer when we will all forget how mediocre we usually are and then reality will slap us in the face again while we struggle to win 4 or 5 games. It's a predictable sequel to a bad movie series. I'm not interested in Police Academy 9.

OC Elliott will ultimately decide what QB style he prefers - guessing he wants a pro-style QB who can throw the ball down the field vs. a RB playing QB.

Pemberton picks up gardner webb offer.... Choosing to transfer not such a great Idea ? Woodard adds N texas and GA southern slightly better Barfield and morehead nothing so far One of the many impacts of the current way the NIL and the portal is constructed is that we are going to see a lot of very good players get pushed down to FBS, FCS and even JUCO...it's already happening...there are currently 113 FCS players on NFL rosters, an all-time high...I think a lot of these kids think that if they're good enough for the next level they'll be found....not sure about Morehead because we never saw him...thought Pemberton was better than Barfield and somebody we should've tried to get to stay...still I think those RBs transferring is going to turn out just fine for both of them IMHO...they'll probably land in a place where the OC believes in a two back system, keeps their word and/or don't have the #1 guy bitchin' and moanin' when somebody else plays or scores, half-asses a ball behind the line of scrimmage or stops playing when he doesn't get the ball on an RPO...film doesn't lie.

Hunt flipped his commitment from South Carolina to Texas A&M. Patrick Dougherty is the TEs coach at TAMU now.
Also, WR Gathings is no longer committed. My guess is that was more of the staff encouraging him to look elsewhere.
