From Footballscoop:
"Ball State: Jeff Knowles, the defensive coordinator at Butler (FCS - IN) has emerged as a target for the defensive coordinator opening at Ball State, Adam Rittenberg shares. Knowles is the former defensive coordinator at Temple and Northern Illinois".

If you're the DC at Butler and formerly a DC at the D1 level that is not good for us. This feels like a Lynch connection hire again.

Neu is looking to fill a hole. He doesn't care if the peg is square, round or star-shaped. He’s giving this just about the same effort as he did the OC charade. Truly milking this cow as long BSU will let him. With the New Year upon us…..He gets another retention raise $$$

A & B managers want A & B employees.
C & D managers want D & F employees.
Make that call Neu and you've wrote your own obituary.

Well, he's coaching at Butler (football, not basketball) so he probably fits our price point, and that's probably the most important thing.
Plus, he's moved a lot lately so he's not scared of the possibility that he might have to look for another job next year.

I was thinking maybe he was just planning on banking the cash (BSU DC doesn't pay much, but I'm sure it's still double or maybe even triple of what Butler pays) and then retiring, but yikes, he's only 45. His downhill trajectory is pretty obvious, but when you take a dead-end one-year job like this it's pretty obvious your career is quickly fading. His next stop is likely back to FCS as a position coach at best.

Let’s face it—the coaching world knows Neu is lame duck next year barring a miracle season. We aren’t going to attract any up and comers for a one year gig. So Neu’s options are few in terms of hiring new staff. The guy at Butler was really good at NIU so you hope to recapture that.
Breathlessly awaiting an GA being promoted to RB coach. Honestly, Kev should be back coaching RB. He’s not exactly distinguished himself as QB coach.

A guy that has potential isn't going to blow it coming here for a year. Too, I don't understand a RB being a QB coach when the RB position is open, but then again, who are we going to attract ?

Just another example of the depths that this program has sunk to. Hire you can get for a song. At this point who cares? Next year will be a waste of time, effort, and money. The school is flushing the football program down a sewer that we will be floating in for years to come. What kind of a staff will we be able to hire after this debacle? What kind of athletes will sign?...Is there any need to go on?..."The prosecution rests Your Honor".

As Judge of Cardinal district court the football program is guilty on all counts. I hereby order that the stadium be turned into a water park so that the entire school may benefit. The football program will be downsized to club level flag football only and will share said indoor practice facility with all other minor sports plus mens soccer that will now be added. Funds that have traditionally ear marked for football will now be distributed to the other remaining sports. Special attention will be given to men and womens basketball. Detailed plans for implementing this order will be presented to this court no later than August 1, 2024. Signed SDA Cardinal, Judge Cardinal District Court
