With all the portal evacuations and early draft entries sitting out, I’m not sure how Vegas or you sports bettors even make an educated guess on some of these games

It was bad enough when 6-6 and 5-7 teams went to bowl games. Now the teams that play in bowl games aren't the same teams that "earned" the invitation. |

I think the bowl system is toast given the number of teams that are not the team they were just weeks prior.

So many teams lost so many players to the portal that the games are a chance to look at next year’s potential starters. They are no longer a reflection of the current year’s team. True at all levels.

I think ESPN is going to jump in on the portal mess. Read that ESPN really pissed about the FSU/Georgia debacle fans,the bowl committee and those at home watching wanted their money back. I shut the game off because of what a joke it was.

with the new CFB 12-team playoff will make the bowl system irrelevant. I wouldn't be surprised to see more than half of the bowls go away.

When you have 5 win teams playing…. i still think fbs should go the play off route like lower levels do. Somehow they make it work. |

12 teams essentially does that.
Other bowl games are already marginal, just TV filler that probably survive. The G5 schools who stay in FBS get the dubious "national attention" they crave, the hosts limp along, they're wannabes as well anyway.

They need the games to fill time slots across multiple channels. I doubt they go away. Watch ESPN owned bowl games become part of the playoff bracket system. Since the big boys are getting their rosters fried in post season play by the transfer portal, maybe they should: 1) Move the season up a week, or two; Maybe remove the bye week. 2) Have championship game on NYD. Start bowls and playoffs just on or after 12/1. 3) Why is there a need for such a large portal declaration window. You either know you're leaving, or you're not. Make the window 2 weeks long. 4) Schedule portal window after NYD. Maybe players do not need to transfer for spring ball (part of the decision in declaring is you miss spring ball at new school). 5) Tighten up the terms for transferring (one jump only, maybe compensation for school's loss). |
