The Cards are trying their best to give this game away like they did against Miami last Saturday. No lead is ever big enough for the red and white. The Cards need to take better care of the ball and get some stops. Go Cards! RF Coach Lewis' timeout may have helped to get them settled down with the NIU press.

The Cards hold on to win by 10 against the Huskies. The last 10 minutes of the game were less than pretty, but the team did get a much needed win. Hopefully this gives the Cards some momentum in the last half of the MAC season.
Go Cards!

Loved 2 of Lewis' quotes in the post-game presser (to the announcers on the radio broadcast).
1) "David, you were a point guard. Did you ever jump-up in the air to force a pass?". Referring to a turnover Middleton made in the last 2 minutes of the game. "Plays like that is why I didn't play Middleton for 2 games."
2) "Bailey will not play defense. He's a walking bucket (for the other team). That's why I had to get him off the floor at the end of the game."
Brutal honesty that Whitford would have never said.

I've become someone who can't stand to see Bailey on the floor. Zero D, guaranteed shot going up probably 80% of the times he gets a pass, only hits shots when it doesn't matter. Lewis has to be furious about the last 7-8 minutes.

I might have totally misread the situation, but Middleton looked distraught after that turnover. And Lewis, despite that quote and the feeling among some here that the coach only berates his players, did not seem to tear him a new one. Instead, it looked like the message was more "Get you head up and in the game; we're going to need you the rest of the way."
I would say Lewis kinda needs to suck it up and keep Middleton on the floor; coach him hard but keep him on the floor.
Looked to me like Hendriks had a back brace on today. I know he's had the shoulder issue. Has he had a back issue, too?

Middleton was at the table for press conf.. He seemed good mike praised him... Hendricks suffered some sort of back injury pre game that shot pain from neck diwn.. Docs tried some muscle relaxers but appearantly tgey did not kick in till to late.. Hopefully a day to day to day thing. He also has a bad toe(nerve)) and still has tge shoulder thing. So he is walking/playing wounded at best

How is Hendriks going to join the Royal Canadian Mounties and save women tied to train tracks if he has a bad back, shoulder, and toe. Curses, foiled again!

His team teammates and Lewis did appear to try to get the kid to get his head up and stay in the game mentally.

Lewis in presser stressed mental focus. Old quote mental to physical 4:1.
When you don't have the physical you better have a lot of mental...
Northern is hard to shut down, we did about as well as we could 1st half. Not so good, 2nd. Some mental there for sure, but the mental was really evident on our offense, we certainly didn't need to turn the ball over as much.
Good answer he gave about our getting in trouble when we dribble too much. Said he has been at work in practice, limiting everybody to one dribble to force moving the ball by pass. Players move. Screen, and cut. Ball moves by passing...
Hey, it's just fine to go to the basket on the dribble when you get the opening but we're not going to beat most teams by playing 1 on 1 off the dribble. Need to get that opening by good cuts, screens and the guy with the ball seeing it and getting it to you.

I just thought up a great idea. Lewis should make a rule that the team HAS to pass four times before taking the shot. Inevitably some player will get impatient with this and take a shot earlier and maybe even hit it. At that point, Lewis calls a timeout and pulls that player out of the game...BUT WITHOUT REPLACING HIM. Everyone is puzzled. The ref comes over and tells Lewis he only has four players on the floor. Lewis has a pithy response prepared that indicates BSU will proceed with four players on the floor. Everybody freaks out. But Lewis has now made his point in a most dramatic way that finally gets through to the players. This team WILL pass the ball on offense and, more importantly, Lewis is in charge and the players HAVE to do what he says.
These ideas just come to me some times, due to my creative genius.
My next idea is to comb through the BSU student body looking for a kid that can shoot 95% from the field.
