Iowa is always a tough pitching team.
When you get held to two hits, you cannot give up 3 errors, 2 wild pitches and a passed ball, with 6 free passes.
3rd and 5th innings looked ugly.

I think all things considered, we competed pretty well against Iowa. They're a top 20 team and did not blow our doors off. We just faced some really good pitching there.

Observations from Charleston games: -we played 15 offensive players and only 4 were regulars from last year -7 were seeing their first BSU innings -we used 11 pitchers and 5 were seeing their first BSU innings -BSU pitching typically “outwalks” our opponents by a large margin -we walked 19 vs 15 for opposition -BSU pitching usually focused on placement/SO’s -we had 50 K’s vs 32 for opposition
This weekend the competition will bump up a notch and all teams will have 3-4 games behind them. All-in-all, a pretty good start to the season for Cards.

My point is "cut the mistakes." It's early, and it's only one game, but BSU does have a history of BBs, HBPs, WPs, PBs. BSU pitching certainly works on the corners (particularly inside) and down. Just gotta get command. As stated, it is a Top 20 team. You cannot give up cheap runs to a Top 20 team. It's how BSU beat Arizona and other Top 20 teams in the past.

I had the opportunity to watch all 4 games in Charleston
Overall, pitching was the strength of the weekend. A lot of new arms, but they appear to be up to the task.
Against MSU, Beemer and Letsinger owned the Spartans. Each are new arms to the program, both were +90 and had good sliders.
Offense needs to be better.
Good season ahead for the Cards.
