No top draft choice this year. Still an eccentric owner and a GM that lives to draft measurable athletic traits, loves to trade down.
The owner seems to want to trade up to get Marvin Harrison's son.
Not an entirely lunatic position.
So some interest. The Colts are not predictable, always at least one counter intuitive choice.
Seems to need CB and WR this year. Probably will draft something else...

If I were the Colts, I'd be on the phone with the Cardinals, and tell them I'd send them Pittman, first pick this year and next for their first pick. If Harrison is still available. Some people seem to think the Patriots will grab him, but I don't see it.
But I think the Colts will take Mitchell, the Toledo CB, or one of the Texas receivers, Xavier Worthy or Adonai Mitchell, unless Nabers or Odunze falls to 15. If Bowers (Georgia TE) is available, they'll grab him over anyone else.

Couldn't argue with a CB, but the colts desperately need more dangerous receivers and have since the prime of TY.

Pittman led the colts with 4 td catches. That puts him in a tie with 28 other players for 54th place in the NFL in that statistic. That situation borders on pathetic. I think Ballard would have more than 1 playoff win in 6 years if he paid a little more attention to positional value and a little less to dumbass slogans like "win in the trenches" and "run the damn ball". I was initially excited about the possibility of Brock Bowers, but the stats show that wide outs dominate the TD stats for receivers. 2023 nfl receiving

I was initially excited about the possibility of Brock Bowers, but the stats show that wide outs dominate the TD stats for receivers. When you generally have 3 receivers and 1 tight end on a given play, I think your statement can be summed up with, "No shit, Sherlock." I'd love to see a top receiver with ludicrous speed across from Pittman, but I don't think an elite-level receiver (Harrison, Nabers, or Odunze) will be available at 15. Ballard doesn't like to trade up, so I think he'll stay there.

Colts surprise with Edge Rusher.
Looks good, great player.
Except for broken neck maybe.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting that pick, with his medical history.
If we're lucky, they picked up a Maxx Crosby-type.

I’m in favor of gambling to get out of the low-seed/just-missed playoff rut. Whether this particular gamble will pay off or not I have no idea

Ballard is all indignant about people bringing up Mitchell’s character question. But th fact is he fell almost one full round because of them. Meaning that a lot of gm’s took them seriously. Gm’s with much more success than Ballard has had.
So another gamble. Which I said I don’t mind, but a gamble none the less

He does meet the need for a vertical threat.
He'd be bigger risk as a first round choice, higher opportunity cost. He wouldn't have lasted long especially with the money WR free agents are getting. A rookie salary if he comes through will be a huge win.
As you say, a gamble, not clear home run.
