Although very disappointed in our start to the season, I'm not as down on this team as others. I'm hopeful we'll be a much better team come January. But, there must be significant improvements in our team defense and rebounding. I really feel like the pieces are there to be very competitive in the MAC:
- Hill and Burch have been nice surprises. I was really pleased how Hill did not force things when ISU was locking him down.
- Hernandez has yet to step up. He was first team all-conference last year as Southern Indiana. The talent has to be in there.
- Hart has supposedly been hurt and missed a great deal of time in the pre-season. I've watched a ton of his HS videos. There was a reason he was given consideration for Mr. Basketball and was on the all-star team. He needs to see the ball go in the hoop a few times;
- Sparks looked better against ISU, but still has a way to go to get back to the Sparks we saw for his first two seasons.
- Henricks is a capable back up.
- Pearson just needs to let the game come to him versus trying to be a creator. Not his strength;
- Jones is a very good defender, but needs to step up on offense so we're not going 4-on-5 when he is in;
- I like our three point guards & believe they will be able to provide us with steady play;
To me, all of our current weaknesses can be addressed with good coaching. As Lewis said in one of his pre-season interviews, we are going to find out if this staff can coach as this team has some fellas!
Go Cards!!
BTW, did anybody else watch the Bowling Green / Michigan State game over the weekend? BG was leading by 10 in the 2nd half before Michigan State took over. Bowling Green's center is a large man who is scorer both inside and out. Will be a tough matchup.
