WMU comes into tourney with an 18-31 record, plays out of the losers bracket and goes on a 4-1 tear to win the MAC Tourney. They beat 43-12 Kent State.
WMU plays No. 1 seed Louisville (47-12) on Friday night. No. 2 seeded Ohio State (43-19-1) and No. 3 seeded Wright State (44-15) also play.
We are not well represented.

Once again these ridiculous tournaments render the regular seasons useless. I really don't care what sport one includes in the discussion we should do away with them or fundamentally change the way they are structured.

Baseball is not a game in which one game can decide who the better team at least it's much less deciding than sports like Basketball or Football. This is the reason why all season you play 3-4 game series which are much more accurate in showing which team is better.

YOU ARE PREACHING TO THE CHOIR BROTHER. I hate these tournaments. They exist so the conference might make mo' money.

At least in baseball there is a losers bracket.
Had we been the best team (by tournament time we were clearly not) and just run into an unbelievable pitching performance, we would have had a chance. The basketball conference tournament really punishes you with upsets.
I can see the point of sending your "hot" team to the NCAA in basketball, especially when you are getting only one entry. A losers bracket tournament there would be an improvement. The money issue is definitely there in basketball, though.
Not sure there is much money in any of the other tournaments.
I can't see much case here that we are sending the MAC best team...

Does anyone know if the leagues are required to give their "bid," if one exists, to tournament or regular season champions across the board?
Meaning, if you give the NCAA basketball bid to the tournament champion, any other bids in other sports must also go to the tournament champions?
Or can leagues decide on a sport-by-sport basis?

I really don't care what sport one includes in the discussion we should do away with them or fundamentally change the way they are structured. I have always been a proponent of taking only the top 4 seeds for a conference tourney to put much more emphasis on the regular season, with at least a minimum of 1 East and West MAC team. I know that would exclude BSU in many seasons, but I think that's a more fair solution than the current setup that doesn't punish bad to mediocre regular seasons.

I'm not sure why conference tournaments even exist for non-revenue sports. Seems like a huge waste of time and money.

I'd pretty much have to agree with that thinking, not that any of our sports are probably profitable, but it doesn't make much sense to do all that travel and etc. when something like this can happen. I still don't understand the 3 day series' during the season either. I would think that a bunch of money could be saved by knocking out the extra overnight expense and meals. MAC probably feels that they have to do that way to look as though we have the funds of the bigger conferences. Just seems like the old single game followed by a 7 inning double header would make sense.
