Losing close is the new standard. Well, it was 63-17 last year. That is a big improvement. Hopefully next year they take the next step.

We all said it was pre season It would be nice to win some, but you aren't going to go from one of the worst teams to making a bowl game in one season. I just want to continue to see improvement. Next year if we still aren't winning a change needs to be made.

I agree but my fear is these young guys on the offensive side especially at WR that we thought were going to step up are not even on depth chart. O line is now a mess ans the youbg guys again not doing much. Seems like for everything we fix something else breaks

Look, NIU was clearly the better team today. BSU kept it close and had a chance late. Considering where we were last year I don't think that is a terrible outcome. I'm not happy with losing, but I think things are moving in the right direction. The next 3 weeks are all against average MAC teams. Hopefully we can win a couple of them.

Newton hasn't even seen the field this year.

While we could have won this game, we were never leading so I think this is different than the WKU game.

We have to kick too many field goals. In tight games in general the play calling gets strange. We start running off tackle with guys who aren’t built to run off tackle, and in situations where we need something better than off tackle. Like on 4th and a couple and they KNOW we’re going to run off tackle. And that was after a time out. When we should just run it we throw a hopeless fade or something. We are improved. The problem is we’ve got to CLOSE when we have opportunities. The chances to win are rare for us and we can’t keep blowing them.

Because our best players were back and all that. I figured we win 4 games this year. Can we even get that?

After a disastrous possession for NIU that we suffered, we were then competitive.
cardfan has to a great point about our red zone performance but I did not see us fold after that and am less harsh.

It was probably his best game as a Cardinal. The wind was interesting today. Those were not easy kicks he made. That being said we have to stop settling for field goals. I felt today's play calling was disappointing. Did I imagine it or on 4th down with the game on the line did we actually run at the strength of NIU's defense? Riley Neal made some big throws but overall wasn't at his best from start to finish. This isn't all on him but had he been we might have won this one. If we had we would have been feeling pretty good about ourselves right now.

We just don’t handle more physical teams well. . Our lines aren’t good enough. Riley has trouble with pressure and our WRs don’t open as often. But we are better than last year. Especially defensively. The offense is too inconsistent but maybe the oline injuries are a part of that.
We still have to get bigger and stronger.
