The lack of red zone performance is actually not how we did in the red zone as much as the fact that we only made it to the red zone once.
Today's loss is on the offense, or maybe should be credited to the NIU defense. Riley was not as accurate as he has been but I thought that had a lot to do with NIU forcing him into awkward throws.
The defense, especially with the big INT late, was adequate. Hagee had a wonderful day, but I think history would say he is not reliable from 45+.
Take away Hagee's extraordinary day and the TD set up by the INT, and the offense could manage only 3 points. Not good.

After a disastrous possession for NIU that we suffered, we we're then competitive. cardfan has a great point about our red zone performance but I did not see us fold after that and am less harsh. No we haven’t folded. Not like last year. What we have done is reduce our chances for wins and we put ourselves in tough spots with strange play calls and poor execution in key moments. The offense HAS to make hay when the defense makes big stops. Hagee drilled the ball today.

We are improved but I still see us sitting @ 5th in division which means next week we have to prove it on the road.Conference wise I think we are 8th. Win wise hopefully 4. Next season a bowl keys are a better o line & receivers. I also worry about losing some depth do to transfers after this season. I suspect some guys who played last yr are not happy on the bench & are playing behind people who will also be here next yr. Neu will return even if we fail to win again this season. Next yr we need to be at .500.

The o-line injuries are a real problem. We don’t have enough quality depth. Not getting the JUCO transfer was a big miss for us as well. He would have been a “huge” plus.

Interesting coincidence.
NIU 24 Central Michigan 16 NIU 24 Ball State 16

I just hate losing, that’s all. We’ve done so much of it and I’m hungry to win again.

No doubt in my mind it is OL that limits us most.
I'm sick of having backs who could be very good just not get a chance. Neal gets a lot of pressure, is significantly less effective then, but we could take a lot of that away with a run game.

every game brings a new question. Is nius d that good. Constant pressure on Riley. Personally I thought we could have run it more early in the game. We seem to abandon the run quickly.

every game brings a new question. Is nius d that good. All of their games have been lower scoring, so I would say yes. They are probably the best defense we will face in the MAC. We will see much better offenses though.

Gotta find a way to score TDs rather than rely on Hagee. It seems like we were close but without a couple of six pointers we really were not. That being said, we are playing hard and we have a chance in the next three weeks to rack up a couple of wins if this young team can find a way to score six in place of three. Ya gotta close and we have not learned yet.
