Years ago bowl games were a nice treat for all fans of college football. Very few games were on television and the post season match ups were interesting. It gave the college fan a chance to see squads they had not seen during the regular season. There were fewer bowl games and the participating schools had good records usually at least 7 or 8 games out of 10 not 12. Now the bottom feeders in the big five can reach a bowl game with only 2 conference wins. Going to a bowl game with a .500 winning record is truly a bad joke. No one will remember or care. I would rather sit at home save the money rather than play in the 7-11 Midnight Bowl.

Whether or not a given low level bowl exists has absolutely nothing to do with the existence of "deserving" football teams and everything to do with finding two schools who will pony up the money to play. Low end programs from the big conferences may be able to fund the trip off their conference affiliation money. Mac programs fund the trip based on their boundless stupidity and self delusion
