I was really surprised Mallers is shooting 31% from 3. 71% of his shots come from 3 so that's kind of important. Yeah, Gunn has taken 50 shots in conference play, 42 were three pointers and he has hit only 12 of them. We have no one who can shoot on this team. Didn't we bring in a grad transfer who could shoot the 3's?

How many close games can a team loose in a season, All of them. It could be worse, . How is seven points a close game ? EMU had the lead for for almost 30 minutes. Did you not watch or listen to the game? We were within 3 in the last minute. That my friend is a close game.

Basketball is much easier to fix than football but here we are year 6 and he is having maybe his worst season but has his best collection of talent. I almost NEVER say "I told you so", but my Whitford-critical posts after year ONE were pushed aside when I said: How does a good coach take the same team that went 15-15 (8-8 MAC) the year before and come up with 5-25 (2-16 MAC) the next year?I was told it was the new system Whitford was putting in place that would make us better once everyone understood it. I'm assuming this system is very difficult to grasp here in year 6. (Please look at Dambrot going to Duquesne for making my point)The "supportive" and "patient" people won't accept this, but the fact is that you CAN almost always tell the quality of the coach you have after three seasons...if not two.
Obviously you can't necessarily expect a the coach to set the world on fire in years one and two, but you can ask these two vital questions: 1) Did the coach over or under achieve with the talent he inherited? 2) How is recruiting going?
The answers to these will tell the tale. It's become a cliché that fans and even schools are too "impatient". I think this originates from sports media. Media people like to repeat this to claim their superiority over the common fan, and also possibly media people develop relationships with the coach and want to believe the best about them.
This is our third case where BSU has failed to heed the obvious warning signs in the first two or three years. Had Ronnie Thompson not imploded so spectacularly, I have no doubt the same thing would have happened with him. Nor do I doubt that BSU will do the same thing again. If you fail to learn after two lessons, why would anyone expect the third lesson to take?

I told you I quit, I am just pissed off. ... Im going to go to Senior night cause Tayler and Trey deserve the recognition other than that Im done till next year. I'm with you. Last night I kept an eye on the score but didn't actually turn it on until it was still close with 3-4 minutes to go. I was the same way with football most of the year. I used to be glued to the screen or making trips to Muncie just for the games. Now with both sports it's just kind of "eh." Not worth the time and effort.
I won't go as far as you and swear off the rest of the year though. Doing that right before we're about to make a huge run deep into the dance is just silly. Boy are you going to be surprised when you get back on the basketball board for some pre-season banter next fall and see us all discussing when the new banner is going up.

I will end up watching and I really hope we do make a run. If it happens I just do not want people to get sucked into and believe it when Whit says something like we just needed time to gel. If we do make a run it will be because we got lucky and the stars aligned. Any team can get hot for a few games but those few games do not erase previous history

If we run the table in MAC tournament......do we get a spot or do they give us a “play in” game?

If we run the table in MAC tournament......do we get a spot or do they give us a “play in” game? That's assuming we suddenly find our shooting touch, hit some 3s, box out and get some rebounds. It has been said rebounding is a matter of effort. Not going to happen. I sure hope the AD is upset as much of the rest of us and take action. The Cincinnati Reds are similar to BSU in that they can't get over the hump. Fans were restless and disinterested. This winter they got an entirely new coaching staff, changed personnel and the fan base is excited, ticket sales are up and interest is up. Our fan base is always hopeful but the February (this year January) swoon comes and it is the same old same old. The pattern just repeats itself. For the most part our personnel is ok but we need a coach to reignite our fan base and give our fanbase something to look forward to and to actually work with players on skill development. Even this year with high hopes and expectations part of us had trouble buying in because of our track record and expecting the other shoe to drop. I love our Cards but I don't know how much longer we can endure.

Here’s another stat to further impress/depress. As we stand, at 6-11 in the league, our six wins include 2 against WMU (currently 8-22) one against NIU by a single point, one against Akron by a single point, and a pair of double digit wins, one vs. CMU and the season opener by 15 against Toledo which now seems like a decade ago. One of our wins vs. WMU was by 2 points. Let that all just seep into your bones. We could almost be a 3 win team in league. But, Reality Check, you forget that we've played the right way.

"We're a lot closer than the record indicates to putting together a string of wins here." James Whitford in his post game comments. Which means absolutely nothing. A loss is a loss. Exactly, and it's not as if we're playing in the Big Ten or ACC, let alone A-10. These teams that are beating us are in no way, shape, or form quality teams.

Jimmy One Win: "The league is good," Whitford said. "It's the best it's ever been in the history of the conference, and believe me, I want to be on the correct side of the ledger more than we are. We need to make some shots, and we have to play better."
Whitford added: "We're a lot closer than the record indicates to putting together a string of wins here."
Alternate version: The MAC has completely passed us by. We're a handful of shots away from being a 3-win team. If you knew nothing about BSU basketball but stumbled into this forum drunk off your ass, you would know Whitford was a joke just from those quotes.

It's funny listening to some of Whitford's nonsense. We have been complaining about his myopic disregard for recruiting bigs and shooters. Now suddenly he seems perplexed by his teams poor shooting and lack of rebounding. How stupid does he think the fans are ? How can you coach college ball in Indiana and not have guys who can shoot ? I was really surprised Mallers is shooting 31% from 3. 71% of his shots come from 3 so that's kind of important. I'm shocked it's 31%. I'll bet if you take out the games vs RPI 150+ and non-D1 opponents that percentage is around 20.
