Well now that Buffalo has done as expected and won the automatic bid, I can’t wait to see how many other teams we get into the Dance and the NIT. You know, since this is the best the league has EVER been. Like in ever. I’m guessing at least three in the NCAA and maybe four in the NIT. Any takers?
Oh, and for those crazy predictions by some of our resident Nostradamus’s out there how did we do on the “make the MAC finals and an NIT bid at least?” Do we have our bags 💼 packed?

I assume the team will gather somewhere today in front of the cameras when their place in the bracket is announced.

BG has the balance we can only dream about. Consistently Strong inside play and guys who can flat shoot it, which in turn makes their inside players even more effective. And their coach runs a system that frees them to do so. They gave Buffalo a run til late.

The other interesting thing about BG is last summer they lost one of their key players, PF Derek Koch, when he transferred to be closer to his girl friend. Yet this unexpected roster down grade didn't affect the performance of the team. Sort of like an unexpected injury, yet their coach had recruited enough depth to handle the defection. If Teague leaves this summer, I doubt if Jimmy Two Win will be able to do the same. Instead of going on to the MAC Finals, it will become the reason for another disappointing season.

Ok, ok so we didn’t get any other teams in the NCAA besides Buffalo so that means we should get a least 4 or 5 in the NIT. I mean this is the best the conference has EVER been!
Wait...being told Toledo. That’s all. Umm, but....er. James?

So with 68 teams in the NCAA tournament and 32 teams in the NIT for 100 teams combined, the MAC has 2 of the top 100 teams in the nation. Sounds about right and indeed very historic.

But for whit, the only way to rationalize going 6-12 in the MAC was for the league to be historically good.
No one bought it. Well maybe a couple did.

Sagarin or any other good rating system would say we have 6 MAC teams as good or better than at least 6 on that list of 100.
The MAC this year was surprisingly good. And it wasn't just Buffalo at the top. Take them out and we are the same or better as a conference than we have been over the last 15 years.
You know it is possible, given the number of truly weak teams that were in conference in the golden days, maybe as good or better as back then.

Definitely. Getting 11th place was a monumental accomplishment by Whitford. Deserves an extension.
Oh, and of course a raise.

Oh, and of course a raise. I am all for the raise. As long as it doesn't involve an extension. Keep making BSU a high paid job and we will have a better chance to make the next hire a good one.

But this is a university and those eagle eyed legislators look askance at Athletics (except IU or PU) and love cutting money to higher education.
