I've got an excuse for the students: the program has sucked for twenty years. That's a pretty good excuse, I think

No shooting for the last 30 years!...What was his first clue?..Remember what the old coach Abe Lemons said,''There is really only one play...Put the ball in the basket.''

No shooting for the last 30 years!...What was his first clue?..Remember what the old coach Abe Lemons said,''There is really only one play...Put the ball in the basket.'' But Whitford promised to "play an exciting up-tempo style of basketball that would engage both students and alumni, and bring fans back to Worthen". Didn't happen did it. Instead we got a stand around offense that produces three random passes and culminates in someone going one-on-one in the lane, or a clanked twenty footer.

But Whitford promised to "play an exciting up-tempo style of basketball that would engage both students and alumni, and bring fans back to Worthen". Didn't happen did it. Instead what we got is a stand around offense that produces three random passes and culminates in someone going one-on-one in the lane, or a clanked twenty footer. His style was still faster than Billy Ball of course. And he did not have the athletes the first year or so he wanted. But you have a point about the last two teams.
Hard to tell what his game plan was for those seasons since he hardly ever had a full roster. You "stand around" a lot more if you are shorthanded. You cannot run and gun without depth and athletes. Losing kids to injury was clearly a factor.
If we stand around this year we will have a pretty hard time.
The one on one thing comes from having no outside threat and the P&R as the main offense demands you have some shooters when the other team concentrates on stopping the drive, and we all are worried that we will lack enough of that.
Only sensible choice seems to be to play more numbers and run to score off the hoped for turnovers produced by defensive pressure. We may have the ingredients to do that better than any other team he has had. Let's hope it is enough.

Who built such a fragile roster that depth is ALWAYS an issue? After 5 years.

Who built such a fragile roster that depth is ALWAYS an issue? After 5 years. Fair point, with 20-20 hindsight even better of course. The year we expected the most it seemed quite deep enough. Before school started. Death and discipline issues. This year last where two of top 8 went down, plus the loss of player at guard expected to play a lot from that previous year and Mallers disappointing is a lot to ask of a bench to provide. Things have not gone according to plan...and perhaps as you say too many red shirts. Hard to judge that factor since they're most all pretty good players.

Should do your homework: FGCU averaged 11 wins from 2007 to 2012. Fan support was there in lean years as well.

Hell the whole school was founded in 1991. Im not sure you can really compare what FGCU does with Ball State. Yes our attendance sucks compared to our past numbers but we still are in the top third of the MAC attendance wise

Then they went over 4,000 when they started winning. And actually, their average home attendance this past season was less than BSU's. When you don't know what you're talking about, you might consider the STFU route.

And then there is this we have the duck pond and they have
Residence life
Lake Como and North Lake Village student housing On-campus housing is made up of three sections: North Lake Village, South Village and West Lake Village. North Lake Village is located on an 80-acre lake and features apartment-style residence halls with waterfront recreation. West Lake Village was previously owned by American Campus Communities and formerly called College Club Apartments. Housing 501 students, it was bought by the University for $17 million and the apartments officially became part of FGCU Housing and Residence Life in October 2010.[46] Themed housing is available, such as Honors and Wellness communities. South Village (SoVi) is composed of suite-style residence halls with five buildings: Everglades Hall, Biscayne Hall, Palmetto Hall, Osprey Hall and Eagle Hall, housing a total of more than 1,720 first-year students.
In the summer of 2013, South Village opened the SoVi Pool, a resort-style pool featuring a "beach-entry" and built-in pool volleyball court. FGCU enhanced the North Lake Village complex in 2017 by opening a new lakefront boardwalk and dining facility.[47]
In total, there are annually more than 3,200 students living in both North Lake Village and SoVi. Freshmen are not required to live on campus; however, on-campus housing is usually filled to capacity every year.
Individual halls sponsor their own activities and socials, and leadership positions are available in the Resident Hall Association.
A commonly used form of transportation on campus is called the Eagle Express. This shuttle operates daily, taking students from their residence halls to classes and activities around campus.
