I see the last game with 2 teams coming in with 5 wins & 2 coaches with the blade of the guillotine over their head. One of them is going to get sliced. Which one? Please don't have us trying to find a new football coach the same off season as Miami.

Another 5 win prediction? Optimism appears to be at an all time high right now on the heels of the season opener.

The fan base is at an all time low as evidence that winning 5/12 games is construed as “optimistic”.
The microcosm that is “OverThePylon” indicates just how few people actually care about the football season and BSU athletics in general.

I love Ball State and it's athletic teams but ''if you win they will come.'' We won four last year ( I think) and if we win five this season, retain our coach and staff we could be in for a fun ride with our football program and the crowds will be larger. Basketball is another story unless they fire Whit and hire the General.

One has to look at the mess Neu walked into. If Neu wins 5 or 6 games this season IMHO he deserves another 3 or 4 years to it going. If we change coaches it is back to square one. Remember this not a school with great facilities, a great fan base, and a great tradition in football. Ball State University is not a prime job so what kind of coaches do think might apply? If we do land a good one where does the money come from to pay a first class staff. Progress might be slow but it looks like it is being made. If none is made this season I guess we bite the bullet and start anew. I certainly hope that step does not have to be taken.

Not a pretty picture, but hoping a new hire can solve all the problems is not all that good a bet.

We need to win at least six, go to a bowl game and win the darn thing! Nothing less is acceptable. I’ve said it before and I’ll stick with this point.

Only way I'd back a 2/3 yr extension after a 5-7 season is if the majority of our losses are extremely close 50/50 gamesand its obvious BSU is trending up, a la 5-7 2006 season when they gave Michigan a game. Otherwise extending Neu out of some fear of having to replace him feels like the cowardly mantra of our basketball program the last 10-12 seasons. How's that worked for them?

I'd love to see New succeed, but this is a pivotal year and we have to make the right decision going forward. If there's any question regarding adequate progress, there is a very good potential replacement not far away who will be in our price range. But if we extend Neu, that replacement likely won't be available by the time we're looking again.
