How's everyone doing? Don't pop in much with work/school/family/HB, but thought I'd come say hey. What's the thoughts on the coming season? This week was BSU week over on Hustle Belt, and I wrestled it away from one of our staff writers. Trying to be positive but am having a hard time. And before anyone jumps down my throat for being negative about Mike Neu as the coach (like the last time), help me see it differently. What am I missing that you see to be positive (if you are)?

Almost everyone sees his chances to be a winner this season as remote. Most optimistic hold out a chance to win 6.
The discussion is mostly about whether to buy him out after this year. Many really want to do that, others don't think we can afford it under any circumstances. That would make it even harder for the next guy and we'd be in about the same situation 3 years down the pike.
Some despair that we can't really do any better. Period.
Pretty depressing discussion.

I keep reading about budget woes at the university. Last time I was up there they were trumpeting a record class and expanding everywhere. Which is the true story?

Isn't he down to 2 seasons on his contract? Could we really not afford to buy out the last one?
I learned everything I needed to know about Mike Neu when he chose to punt on 4th and 2 from midfield in the final minutes of a season-ending loss at Miami. Literally nothing to lose, nothing on the line, down by 2 points, and he punted. A winning coach goes for the win there, or at the very least, goes for the 2 yards.
Mike Neu is not a winner.

He was a winner as a player. As a coach it’s not happening. That punt vs Miami was indeed a bad look and sent a bad message.

I keep reading about budget woes at the university. Last time I was up there they were trumpeting a record class and expanding everywhere. Which is the true story? The number of accepted students was high, but the number of students that actually enrolled was lower than expected. This led to a budget shortfall. There was a 3% budget cut across campus for this fiscal year. Some departments may not have been affected, but Athletics was already several million in the hole. Considering their budget is the largest on campus, that's a lot of dollars they lost.

I keep reading about budget woes at the university. Last time I was up there they were trumpeting a record class and expanding everywhere. Which is the true story? Both are true. They had 25,000 applications this year. There is know reason not to have any issues with having enough students. The issue would appear to be poor budget management. They can argue the state doesn’t give them enough, but you should live within what you have.

They should have enough history of how many they accept and how many don’t show to be able to build a reasonably “conservative” budget that covers your ass. If not, you need to get someone who can. Especially when you get 20,000+ applications!

What's your source for the applications number?
That seems awfully high.

Considering their budget is the largest on campus, that's a lot of dollars they lost. We are also experiencing attrition with the large class. But that small class the year before has really hurt. The state has effectively cut budget and the funding formula does not reward what BSU does best.

Hey I'm on an Island with limited internet in case anyone cared I see, rather like the Skipper of the Minnow. We all think of you that way. No doubt you have Ginger there. But you have left behind Gilligan, the Professor, Thurston Howell... It's a shame. But you are on your own it appears to get out of this mess.
