Rourke should thank us for his 100+ rushing game because we certainly handed it to him. Every time he took off on an option we looked like a basketball team blocking out before the shot even goes up, just clearing the lane for the guy with the ball. Apt description.

Just dried out from the game. The weather definitely sucked, but really OU just beat the crap out of us at the line of scrimmage. Our rushing game sucked. Fletcher had 3 big runs on our first TD drive and the bigger one later. Dunner had his one run. Other than that we gained something like 75 yards on 30 carries. Yeah, 4 yards is a good football play; 2.5 yards is a shitty football play and that's what we had most of the day. And Plitt did not have a great day, but he also got no help from his coaches, O-line or receivers. He had 11 rushes and other than maybe a few sneaks on short yardage that meant he had 9 "oh shit I've got no time to throw" rushes. Rourke should thank us for his 100+ rushing game because we certainly handed it to him. Every time he took off on an option we looked like a basketball team blocking out before the shot even goes up, just clearing the lane for the guy with the ball. I'm curious enough that I'd like to see us again against Ohio on a clear day, but if they handle us at the line like they did today, we'll lose again. They did all of that last year too. I’d honestly rather not face them again because they’d just embarrass us again. We don’t coach or play well vs that scheme. We don’t do physical very well. Agreed. I do not want to see them again. Maybe we can blame the rain for loss of traction. But our defense against the option was atrocious. We had multiple times where the defender was just trying to contain and got turned around. I don't think that is fixed just by playing indoors.

I hope we play them again because that means we won the west. If that does somehow happen they will need to seriously adjust how they defend the option. Our strategy was to have one guy to cover the quarterback and the running back apparently. He would backpedal in the middle and let the quarterback run free for an easy 15 yards. So frustrating to watch and not see any adjustments throughout the game.

We didn’t play their option properly and there were way too many missed tackles. As one poster said , if we see them again that means we had a good finish to the season.
Along with that, the weather severely affected one of the things we have done well this year, pass the ball and attack people in the air. The weather hampered that more than Ohio did . This in turn also affected our run game (play actions taking a man out of the box, etc.). If we get to them in a game with dry conditions, we’ll see a different Ball St team. We’ll take this loss, we earned it, and I am not offering excuses.
I predicted a bowl game and I still stand on that.

“We got punched in the face,” Crumb said. “We thought we were riding the high horse, taking three wins, and got punched in the face. Now it’s time to regather ourselves and start hitting, start doing it again, start trying to figure out what’s going on to win.”

I look forward to the rematch with Ohio in the MAC Championship when the weather doesn’t decide the game. The weather did not in any way decide the game. Both teams played under the same conditions. Neu went back to his cautious ways, we couldn't move the ball, and they gashed our D. Oh, and we turned it over on the first play from scrimmage (not acceptable), spotting them 7 points and the second half opening kickoff.

The weather excuse is just that, a lame excuse. Both teams played under the same conditions. Hopefully they rebound. WMU is pretty much the game of the year now, but it is very tough to win up there. They seem to be playing well, and will definitely be gunning for us after last year.

I think the kicking game was also a factor in the loss. You can't shank a punt for 9 yds with your back to the endzone, miss a short FG after having a score called back. Oh almost forgot about providing the Bobcats good field postion by by kicking the ball out of bounds twice.

Every game AND the response to those games is crucial. We shall see if the team and the staff learn from the mistakes in the losses and are able to repeat the good from the wins. Will they be smart enough to be self critical and change for the good. I f they do those two things winning six for the season should be no problem, the coaches come back and we continue to become a better football team. If not, I'm just sayin'...
