I'm crossing my fingers that part of the reason Neu was retained was to not tie up money that can be earmarked for buying out Whitford in March of 2020. It's obvious say 10 yr from now when we look back on Whit that he will be considered nothing more than a small upgrade from his predecessor, Taylor. All but maybe 2 optimists on this message board know this. They'll be lucky to break 8-10/9-9 in conference.

If you had to keep only 1, Neu would be the “Fan’s Choice”.

Plus, we aren't really supposed to be successful in football. We SHOULD be good in basketball. There's no excuse for how bad Whitford is in every phase of leading a program. It's way past time for him to go.

Basketball has a much more passionate and vocal donor fan base. People at the arena are just over it and him. Most people on the football side really seem to like and are still behind Mike. Mike being an alum probably has something to do with that..
Mike did the right thing for him by canning Elson had he not he would have lost some of that support

I still think basketball is an easier fix than a D1 football program. With that said, tonight's debacle showed a team in TOTAL disarray. If we win 10 games I will be shocked. That is a pathetic D1 basketball program.

Remember that certain members of the board supported Whitford's extension.

Remember that certain members of the board supported Whitford's extension. Rick Hall should know better. This is pathetic.

Neither the president nor the AD has shown the slightest sign that they would have any inclination towards buying out Whitford. The first prerequisite would be that they gave a f--- that the basketball program is going nowhere. You tell me how they have demonstrated any concern whatsoever about this.

That is a pathetic D1 basketball program. Thats funny cause I was just walking in from the kitchen thinking about what was harder football or basketball.. I had decided it would be tougher to fix a football team. Whit got us out of the cellar which is good but if this continues we are going to be right back going down the steps

Basketball is a million times easier to turn around. The size of the roster, and the number of players that play in a game being the biggest factor.
If you get a basketball coach who tells you they need some years to "build the program", then you know right then you have a loser on your hands.

Whit got us out of the cellar which is good but if this continues we are going to be right back going down the steps If Whit were to be fired at the end of the season (or before), he'll likely be leaving a roster worse than the one he inherited (at least in terms of how he's using his current roster). Might Hazen, Gunn, Hendricks, Huggins or Thomas be developed/better used by another coach? Possibly, but it'll clearly be on the next staff to do it. At least he'll have 3 scholarships to try to get some help immediately and three more to work on for next fall's class. So in a matter of months he'd be making decisions that could turn over about half the roster.
