Looking at what I deemed the “attendance” sports, I calculated a winning % for each sport over the last 10 years. I pulled out the Covid year for each sport to be consistent.
soccer. .661 Mvolleyball .654 Wvolleyball .633 baseball. .627 Wbasketball .587 softball. .571 Mbasketball .491 football. .387

Like what percent of total attendance do football and mbball make up?

What is it with the Covid year? Still bad for football, so you didn't have to leave it out to make your point.

COVID year was a "fractional schedule" that disproportionately had games against non-conference opponents and was not felt equally by all sports because of when it was implemented. Even though it threw out the 7-1 football year, it did not impact the football % much because it replaced it with the 10-3 "miracle on turf" year of 2012

Do you spend scarce resources to improve the sport we have the most trouble in when it is the most expensive to improve?
Good argument to put money into what we are good at and have the best chance for the least money to improve.

Good argument to put money into what we are good at and have the best chance for the least money to improve. IMO the money should now go much more toward MBB/Baseball/WBB/Volleyball. Sports we can regularly compete for the top in and can do it much more "cheaply" than football. I love college football, but it's pretty damn clear the MAC cannot continue on the emphasis on football path.

Only a few programs in the MAC can really afford it.. A few with better revenue prospects, more or bigger donors or donor base.
Even those programs need to have better TV package and somehow keep money games as the P4 reorganizes. Which I think will reduce those opportunities.

And yet Delaware is moving up to FBS, joining Sam Houston State, James Madison, Jacksonville State (this year), and Kennesaw State (2024). 10 more may join in the next couple of years as an entire new conference: Stephen F. Austin, Abilene Christian, Utah Tech, Southern Utah, Tarleton State, Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, Central Arkansas, and North Alabama. link EDIT: Upon further review, it appears these schools from the ASUN and WAC have rebranded as the "United Athletic Conference". But they've been denied a waiver to join FBS as a single sport conference by the NCAA. How do these school think they're going to compete?

Do those schools BOTS know how much money it’s gonna cost?

Another interesting comparison would be the student fees necessary to cover program losses, divided by total home attendance.
As with most sleazy scams, transparency is the enemy, and so it's not particularly easy to find the figures necessary for this calculation.
With football, for example, I don't believe the official attendance figures are at all reliable. But if we use a total home attendance of 40,000, and use the round figure of $10 million deficit every year (probably understated), we find that students pay $250 for every person attending a BSU football game. That's in the ballpark anyway.
As we know, some of these programs have miniscule attendance, limited to basically friends and family, but they have much smaller expenses than football. So it's not clear how the comparison would go.
