I pay no attention to scouting and commits and all that but I have no idea how that was a pretty stinky team last year and now they're in the discussion with Toledo and Western. Its called the Riley Neal Syndrome.. Pundits and Draft guys not from ECI are still very high on Riley. Like most of us have said if Riley becomes the Riley we have a chance.

I'm not seeing us being in that group yet. The d would have to be vastly improved and Riley would need to become the qb everyone thought he would. Losing hazleton did not help.

I kinda get Miami being improved, moving up, no big surprise to expect Toledo to be good. But it does look optimistic to rate Miami and BSU as top teams, leapfrogging so many programs. Western still has talent and some good recruits now upperclassmen. I get it that our defense is probably improved. But our offense has to be better too to move up this much. As Rob says they must really buy into our QB doing well. Doesn't look that way here though. Maybe they think we can be a strong running team. Their write up will give us an idea what they are thinking. Theory here is that they forgot BSU...

You wonder if they really thought about Hazleton. How good can this ranking be? They are doing 128 reviews with a deadline probably the day they issued the first countdown article, easy for them to have missed a lot.

They probably just forgot to include bsu. We will be 4th at best in the west. uT, WMU, and emu are definitely better than us with much better talent returning. Niu, hard to say, but we still can't beat them even when they serve it up on a silver platter.
Unless Riley Neal suddenly becomes a top 4 Mac qb (Mac is loaded with good qbs/offenses) and the d improves to middle of the pack we"re looking at 4 wins again. 6 would be the ceiling.

Another site listing all 128 teams has us coming in at 118 with a record of 4-8. I think their leader is cardfan

That ranking makes zero sense.

Well, at least we weren't forgotten. That woulda made more sense than being ranked above all the teams that beat us last year on our way to ONE conference win.

That ranking makes zero sense. The justification certainly makes little or no sense. Based on what they say to support the ranking, how are we better, based on that, than 30 or so teams ranked lower? Our strengths don't sound that strong, the questions marks raised are there and are serious, we lose as many starters as most, both sides of the ball, and a good recruiting class in football takes a year to kick in. Here is glowing words that justify it: "Neu’s first season wasn’t a complete disaster, but the second-half collapse doesn’t provide a lot of momentum for the program heading into 2017 season. The offense features returning talent at several of the skill positions and points shouldn’t be a problem. The defense, however, lacks experience and needs players to develop quickly." No momentum. "Some" talent returning they say "points won't be a problem?" Defense needs to develop. Yep, third best team in the MAC... Huh?

If anyone has a ton of time on their hands I'd be interested to see a breakdown of fan message boards who thought their team was underrated vs. overrated. I bet we're one of the few who roundly criticize the writers for not realizing how bad we are.
