All I get in Northern Indiana is IU, PU, and ND. The Star Press looks like the Bloomington newspaper with its coverage of IU and little if at all about Ball State. Even the Ball State web site provides little coverage of BSU football. I thought Ball U was supposed to have a good "J" program! We do have an AD? We were the poorest attended D1 program last year, could be worse this year with this p*** poor promotion effort. Yelled about this for too many years - leadership a Ball U doesn't want to spend the time or money to promote Cardinal football. Could go on forever on this issue, but I'll stop for now.

The StarPress runs Gannet content out of Indy star so it has a ton of IU/nd stuff. With bsu right there in the front yard.... The SP sportswriter has to cover local high school sports in addition to BSU so he's spread very thin. Gannet won't pay anyone.

I agree with everything you say. Your best bet is finding info on twitter or getting it your self but not being in Muncie eliminates that. The Star press has been a complete joke so far this year. The writer promised coverage but we have received what two three paragraph articles. They are way more focused on High school sports and Ap rehashes

Maybe Ball State offers some free interns to help write their stories - damn, do something to get the word out. Ain't that tough if you just try!

Ball state has been putting out about 1 video every other day. Yea you would think though that some aspiring sportswriter would see the lack of coverage and reach out to Gannet and offer some assistance even if its a free internship thing

I like the Bloomington paper remark! The problem of how to promote BSU football and increase attendance is a really tough one. While there is obviously no full court press for football locally, no success to speak of from the efforts made, sadly I have say there is also little evidence that the promotions they try that are good ideas have much impact. There is amazingly little interest locally in BSU football that goes back decades. Even when basketball drew good crowds from Muncie, football never had much following. This is not necessarily just Muncie or just BSU. Interest in college football in the local community has waned across the US. Big schools, successful schools who draw big crowds, get a surprisingly small part of the attendance from the locals.

The only way to get people is consistent winning over a substantial amount of time...

Heck, MAC schools in general don't draw well for football. In certain cases, yes, but overall as a league, no. People just aren't that interested in MAC football in the middle of Big 10 country, plus again, the weeknight games for TV purposes...

To further this point, Western Michigan had an average attendance of 23,000 last year (Waldo seats 30,000). Not to mention that the MAC had the lowest average attendance of all conferences by a sizable margin. The fact is, a vast majority of people in and around schools within the MAC don't give jack-shit about MAC football.

That being said, would it not better to spend less money on football and concentrate our limited resources on basketball - follow Mo-Valley model? Maybe get the MAC and BSU back to its better basketball days?

Maybe get the MAC and BSU back to its better basketball days? Yep Just look at IU and Purdue. Sure they have a much bigger fanbase in general, but even many of their fans will admit that their attendance at football games is lackluster. What really stands out though is how little most IU/Purdue fans care about whether their football team is good or not. To most, the games are just an excuse to tailgate. Basketball is the bread and butter. That's what people care about. Especially in Indiana. We know we can pack Worthen with people. We've done it before. We don't need a team that can win an NCAA championship we need a team that is consistently in contention to make the Big Dance.

This thread is depressing. Leave it to Ball State fans, the few that we have, to call on their school to cut football on the football message board.
