If Ball State gets beaten fairly handily by Kent St., a very difficult venue historically for BSU, I am concerned even with 11 more games in the conference that they are running the risk of having to play at a first round site given that the Cards still have 2 vs Toledo and have not in conference play exactly stood out amongst the mediocre 3-3 teams . Do I think this team is complete garbage like the last 4 BSU football teams? Certainly not at all, but in year 5 of the Whitford era the expectation for this program should be that they are at a minimum at the level of Toledo has played thru 6 games in conference. They've played at that level for a week in December, and currently the home Valpo win looks less impressive than it did a month ago. I admit I drank the koolaid a bit myself after that week.
If BSU beats Kent St. By no means am I suggesting jump off the rooftop for joy because Buffalo is far and away the head of the class but with so much mediocrity residing at 3-3 in the conference 1 loss or win next Tue. could be the difference between a bye and having to play on Monday of conference tournament week. They'll have to offset the Miami loss with at least 1 unexpected road win.

Look. We are a rudderless, directionless team that plays without a purpose with a coach who has no idea how to provide any of that. We have a pg who makes an ass of himself and gets on the bad side of the refs and a bunch of other guys who just kinda float around out there aimlessly. I feel bad for sellers. He finally looks engaged this year while the team around him becomes more disengaged.
Could they turn it back around? Sure. With a lot af soul searching and if Whitford gets a pair and gets into them and COACHES this team rather than just keep saying they need to play the right way and communicate better. MAKE them or start benching people until they prove they want to be out there.

What’s said in practice may stay in practice! Was something said in practice or was it just the usual voices in your head ?

It is obvious to me that Whit doesn't say ANYTHING in practice.

The next 2 weeks play will answer the questions about this season & the coach. This team to show us they are going to compete has to win at least 3 of the next 4. If they play like they did Saturday they will lose them all.

Yep, they are either going to get the fire burning starting tomorrow night, or they’re gonna pack it in for the season. Really fragile team despite having so many veterans.

I see no reason to believe the first sentence is true. These are young men, not old men on computers. I think you are saying the fan base is fragile, and I am not even sure about that. More long term depressed and obviously not wanting to see the season go in the tank. That's not exactly the same. As for the second sentence above, I gotta remind you this team has faced and actually overcome some serious setbacks and challenges this year, so I don't know how fragile they are. That at this point we want them to be tougher and show it and that they are in a funk and facing another challenge to get back on track, nobody can argue about.

No I’m pretty much saying they’re either gonna get their heads out of their asses and start playing like they can, immediately, or they’ll just continue to be meh and finish around .500 in the Mac and go quietly in the first game of the tourney.
And it is a fragile team. How many times after games does Whitford have to question how they respond to adversity in a game? Or their communication? That ain’t about fans. Fans just see the same ol same ol happening again.
Been blown out in 3 Mac losses in 6 games. You can’t be non competitive in 3 of 6 league games while supposedly being a contender and not be fragile.
The beat writer is also questioning thus team. He’s not one of us on here. Not everything can or should be spun.

I am responding to a post that says tomorrow is do or die. That issue of failed leadership and long term crisis is a different argument. Whether ANY leadership could solve the problems for mid major sports programs and funding is also questionable.

Not everything can or should be spun. I just want to give credit to the team and not characterize them as particularly fragile. Notice your own words about long term fan response. This team literally faced down death and injury and did it far better than some of those past teams. We need to be careful about "spinning" to include being careful about our longer term frustrations. And as I point out, whatever happened in the past involving poor leadership decisions, when I am pessimistic about BSU sports it is about conditions where even if had what everyone thought was great leadership, that is only one of the factors and maybe not as great as the issues facing EVERY mid major program, especially in finances, and fan support.
