We GOT to get serious about the weight room. Can't hurt. Quicker players at guard, and longer will help. Ish got hurt on defense, but will get better with physical maturity and experience. I'll also take mostly long and lean up front if they play aggressively and challenge those opposing big guys. This game saw us attack the rim more with Mallers, Teague, Moses, even Gunn. We weren't hurt by their post play but by more by those strong wings and that quick guard we had to help on. Sellers fought pretty hard...give me more of that from wing players and guards. If you are going to play a pack line defense a point guard built like a line backer is a real plus.

Double OT win, (after “15” straight loses), on our home court to a very young team with a first year head coach. Sure I’ll still take the win...but take it in perspective.

Well, Groce is in his first year at Akron but he’s been a HC in the MAC and the big 10. Not his first rodeo.

Cards play the second OT in two games. Hurts not to win in regulation as we are down to 8 scholarship players. Go Cards! RF Who was the third? walker, Tyler, ?

If Moses only shoots 55% from the free throw line, we don't win this game. I kept waiting for him to miss, but he didn't. Except for the one which he airballed or barely drew iron.. Akron rebounded and Teague made a great play to steal it and put it in.

Best game Ive seen at worthern in a long time. We were not great but that was fun. Crowd was loud and into it, very exciting. Those 6 or 7 kids that played the last 15 minutes played their butts off. No one can argue or say that they did not. It is going to take that kind of effort the rest of the season because we are behind the 8 ball now. Just glad we beat a version of Akron finally. It was pretty intense the whole time, especially given the normal conference game atmosphere. Crowd was not large, but it was pretty loud. We didn't play great, pretty lousy for a couple of stretches, but man those kids left played their guts out today. Saved the best for second half and OTs. They pretty much had to win today, and they responded every time they could have folded. Almost like our best players willed us to a victory--imagine that!

True CF but we know that I mean here, he's new to "that team" and with that comes changes and learning each other which can/is a dynamic that a team has to deal with. I just wonder if it will be another 15 games before we beat them again. They played us very tough, especially their smalls against Trey, so if they continue on this pace most likely we won't be extending our current one game winning streak against the zips, which we were zip - 15 until today! Again, happy for the outcome today.

Akron will out recruit us and Groce already has some really good pieces. Really, strong, quick and athletic.

We GOT to get serious about the weight room. Is Whitford really not a fan of weight training like you said earlier? If so, what is he trying to do here? Doesn't want stronger players, doesn't want post players, doesn't teach good defense...

I totally forgot Groce was at Akron until after today's game. Now it makes sense why they shot 44 threes. All his Illinois teams did was shoot threes.

Doesn't want stronger players, doesn't want post players, doesn't teach good defense... The evidence is in our players bodies vs just about everyone else’s. Akron’s players were cut. And well conditioned.
