Unfortunately there appears to be no real leadership either among players or coaches in this program and no stumbling on to anything is happening. Like I said, totally get it when a team just doesn’t have it on a given day. Has happened to our very best teams. What is not understandable or acceptable is how often it happens with our teams.

"Coaches can only do so much when the shooting is as poor as yesterday."
I would buy that line if the EMU game was an anomaly. But BSU has received a number of complete ass-whoopings in a conference of general parity, where they are somewhat above average. It's a fragile team that can be bullied and will give up on occasion.

Coaches have to prepare their teams physically and mentally. Whit is terrible at getting kids ready for the mental part of the game. It has happened time after time the last three seasons. Every time his teams reach a crucial part of the season or a crucial part of a game they more often than not, fold. Simply, we are not tough mentally. You can get into the heads of our players so easy it is a joke. Collectively they just do not stand up to a challenge very well. Sorry guys but this coach is trying to win games with smoke and mirrors and it simply does not work. I would rather have a player have a technical for standing tough against an opponent rather than curling up in a fetal position and taking it like a little kid in the school yard from the neighborhood bully.

This game was the worst coached and played game that I have ever seen from Ball State Basketball! We play EMU every year; and every year we cannot play against their pressing full court defense and half court zone defense. Make them pay for pressing by moving the ball down the floor with passing, not dribbling, get easy baskets before they can set their defense. There are offenses for the zone; but we seem to continue to run our man to man offense. And yes a screen can be used against the zone! We have a coaching problem. This is where the buck starts and stops.
We had 15 points in the second half. Six of those were from EMU goal tends; so our team scored 9 points in the second half! Unbelievable for a D1 college team!
Rant over....

Your rant is not factual. The three goaltends were in the first half. We had beaten Eastern and Murphy's zone five consecutive times before yesterday. So the coaching staff had the team prepared for those games. Even in Whitford's second season, a 7 win season, the Cards beat the Eagles on their home court.
Yesterday's game was dreadful, but far from the worst game ever played by the men's team. The worst losses are those that occur at home. This season's loss to Buffalo was awful, as was last season's loss to the Bulls.
Go Cards!

Toledo had a 42 point half against Akron.
BGSU had a 46 point half against Kent.
CMU had a 46 point half against Ohio.
Ohio had a 41 point half against CMU.
Miami had a 43 point half against NIU.
That is 5 conference teams that scored as many or more points in one half than we scored our whole game.
Ouch.
