Stupid autocorrect. Mallers. I believe Whit's first two years you wipe away and we have improved each of the next three and I believe we will be better next year. I believe Whit has brought us to a top 4 MAC team, but the question is, can he get us over the hump or has he elevated us just enough to SEE the NCAA or NIT but not experience it? That is the question. I think we've see what Whit has to offer in terms of coaching. He's probably somewhere in the middle third of MAC coaches (I'd probably put Oats, Groce, Senderoff and Hawkins clearly above him). So the only way we're getting to the promised land of an NCAA or NIT berth is for him to outrecruit those guys, and I don't see that happening either. I think we're pretty much destined to remain right where we are unless either Hazen, Walton or Teague become legit MAC Player of the Year-caliber players. And I'm not sure they can do that with Persons and Whit running the show.

So would we be better off now if we were in C-USA or are we lucky we didn't get the chance to make that move? If Whitford fails to make the NCAA Tournament or NIT next season I don't think that alone will be enough to warrant termination. If he fails to make the NCAA Tournament or NIT next season, hasn't recruited a promising class with a talented big man, and it looks like our team is not in a position to take another step toward MAC domination then I think it will be time to bring in someone who can take us further. He is at a crossroads. Let hope we hire a new AD with the balls to do what needs to be done. Also, the NCAA didn't force Dick Hunsaker to do what he did. I blame him, not the NCAA. Improper employment; extra benefits; improper recruiting; unethical conduct; lack of institutional control. How naive are you? What we did is small potatoes. The punishment did not fit the crime and the University totally overreacted in firing him. This was a witch hunt. I am privy to some things you are not but believe me, Dick got hung out to dry and we are still dealing with the ramifications. That is all I am gonna say. Sorry Jim, not a shot at you but I am a little sensitive about how we handled this as it almost ruined a damn good coach.

In your listing of coaches who are outrecruiting Whit I would add Jake Owens of Miami. He's recruiting Indiana well.

I would not put Hawkins on that list. He can recruit, but he has horrendously underachieved almost every year.

Zero concern on my part, mostly because I really don't care much anymore. Apathy, is taking over.

I guess when you’ve seen the same movie enough times you just start ignoring it when it comes on again.

Comments on MAC coaches Owens is definitely hurting our recruiting in Indy & I think is more likely to recruit Indiana than Ohio. Hawkins has to really bring in some players this yr while he has support from school adm. he is losing fan support.
Here is a guy I think Hawkins will go after & we should but probably won't Bowman Academy's Chinedu Okanu a 6'8" strongman born in Nigeria. He has only played bbal for 4 yrs. He only averaged 11 ppg & 9 rebs this season as Sr.

Owens has also gotten a prolific scoring guard out of Evansville. Supposed to also be very quick.

Evansville's two recruits for 2018 are rumored to be asking out of their commitments now that Simmons have been dismissed. One is a 6' 10" power forward originally from the region.

That type of player is another that just doesn't seem to fit Whit's mold. Some size at the point guard seems to be much more important to him than someone like you are describing. For you older folks, that means we wouldn't have any interest in Earl nevertobe spokens !!!!!

A lot of people overlooked Earl nevertobe spokens. I'd guess we could recruit about 100 small quick players and not get one as good. Whitford likes guards who can switch on screens which does make size desirable, a sentiment I support. But a really quick kid who can defend the ball would fit well enough if he can shoot the 3. Some liability on defense, but I agree that speed kills and quickness is something we have lacked.

That's an odd observation considering none of our guards can defend a fire hydrant or shoot the three with any real proficiency.
