Evansville's two recruits for 2018 are rumored to be asking out of their commitments now that Simmons have been dismissed. One is a 6' 10" power forward originally from the region. Dru Smith of Evansville also is reportedly asking out/transferring - we did recruit him initially and he would still be a great get for BSU. He's used up 2 years at UE... would know several of our guys from the Indiana all-star team.

I believe Whit's first two years you wipe away and we have improved each of the next three and I believe we will be better next year. I believe Whit has brought us to a top 4 MAC team, but the question is, can he get us over the hump or has he elevated us just enough to SEE the NCAA or NIT but not experience it? That is the question. Why would you consider it ok to wipe away Whitford's first two years of coaching like it didn't count? Did we need to wipe away Majerus' first two years? Did Buffalo have to wipe away their coach's first two years? The only reason his record has improved is because of the new pile of cream puff's they have scheduled. Instead of playing a big 10 school, we play low division 1 school's. My concern level is 10. Whitford does not have what it takes, as I have stated statistically on this board year after year. We get worse, not better. We lost our last 4 remember?

A lot of people overlooked Earl nevertobe spokens. I'd guess we could recruit about 100 small quick players and not get one as good. Whitford likes guards who can switch on screens which does make size desirable, a sentiment I support. But a really quick kid who can defend the ball would fit well enough if he can shoot the 3. Some liability on defense, but I agree that speed kills and quickness is something we have lacked. That's an odd observation considering none of our guards can defend a fire hydrant or shoot the three with any real proficiency. Small guards have to shoot, defend. Not a controversial statement on my part, in the past we've had a few problems with that. As to your player bashing, you seem to overlook Francis is pretty high on the list, could defend. Persons is pretty good shooter, Tyler good shooter, athletic defender, Walker good shooter. Our guards coming in are good defenders.

I would not put Hawkins on that list. He can recruit, but he has horrendously underachieved almost every year. Hawkins has been up and down, but he's got two MAC regular season championships followed by two MAC tournament titles and NCAA berths. He's got a NIT berth and a handful of postseason appearances in the CBITIGIT tourneys. He's also got a 58% MAC winning percentage. For me, the MAC titles and postseason berths trump the slight advantage Whit has in head-to-head matchups in the past 3 years.

HAZENS brother Parker is transferring from Gallo. He started 11 games as a freshman and averaged about 1 point and 2 rebounds a game.. Side note I am at a Holiday Inn on The University of Alabama campus.. This campus is frigging Amazing probably one of the nicest campuses I have ever been on.

If Hawkins was going to Europe or Africa it would be one thing but when he gets centers from Fishers & Gary that says something about our coaches. Whit blew it on Brandon Johnson & will soon let Chinedu Okanu go out of state without an offer.

I believe Whit has brought the program back to respectability, however, no post season particularly in the last 2 seasons bothers even me.
I’d say NIT minimum next year or time to make a change!!!
Now, having said that I believe next years team will be very good and significantly improved! We will know a lot after Charleston.
But think of this starting line up:
Persons Walton Teague Hazen Moses
With Ish, Mallers, and Gunn getting significant minutes plus I’m hearing Huggins is a beast around the basket and the Fr may need to be redshirted. You know, while I will agree that Buffalo will again be good they lose their quarterback Clark the transfer from Mo

You know, while I will agree that Buffalo will again be good they lose their quarterback Clark the transfer from Mo That line up lacks outside shooting. Starting Mallers might help, with Hazen getting starters minutes, first off bench. Gunn used when shooting needed. In my mind we need another shooter on the wing, guard or forward. Come in for Persons. reevo made the point a shooter would make our play in the lane more effective. Without that, the opponents will pack the lane and make our half court offense a struggle. The alternative without shooting would require we play really pesky defense, create turnovers, and get out and run to score, try to avoid playing half court offense. That requires awfully good defense, and awfully good athletes. Both freshmen could contribute on defense, and are big enough, and could maybe fill the need for athletic wing play. Still, while we will be better on defense, and while Ish and the freshmen, and most of our players are probably better suited to run than we have seen in a long time, we are asking a lot to expect freshmen to play a lot. And our guards, except Walton, are not proven defenders, and nobody in the back court except Persons has shown they can really shoot. Huggins is long, decent defender, good rebounder. Not much offense, probably usable when defense is the need, but will have to improve. I'd say the trade off between going slightly small but with more talented offensive players in some combination of Hazen, Teague, Mallers, Gunn when Moses goes out is probably what we'll see most often. This lineup is bigger than the lineup we used this year with Sellers. We'll see. Would be nice to add a mature big man who can slug it out inside on defense, has a little more offense. I am more worried about shooting, though.

Buffalo adds some good talent, they will be big favorites. Could lose their coach and perhaps a player or two with him as a result, but we can only control our own play. NIT is a tough tournament to qualify for unless we are minimum a top 70-80 team. And we absolutely have to close the season strong. We can get to the MAC final, almost better odds of a tournament upset and getting in the NCAA than the NIT. If we are up there in the top 2, I will be happy enough. We'll be where we want to be. But. Whether we are back as a top MAC program or not also depends on how we recruit. This year both Spring and Fall recruiting is important to show that. Obviously a home run either place would show that, but whether we grab the brass ring, or not, we lose two good players, and a good program has to keep signing talent.

I do agree however Mallers will start instead of Hazen.
