I like Riley, but that dude thinks he is a late first round talent. He has a long way to go to get to that level.

He did nail that Riley misses sitting linebackers. Makes some horrific decisions throwing to double covered tight ends over the short middle with linebackers hanging all over his target. He struggled to read defenses.
Really like Riley. He’s got good physical tools. But there are a lot of buts. Plus with the Joey lynch offense we just don’t see neal really sling it around. I think his next deep ball completion from the pocket will be his first.
Hopefully Riley will take a big step forward this year. We really need him up in order to have any success.

Show us some more deep balls, on target, and I'll consider being a believer.

Thats what I found amazing he nailed the weakness part.. Its like he channeled the pulse of this board. I do not know how you can say all that and then call him a first rounder...
Oh well still a good read

Riley doesn’t have great feel of pressure in the pocket. Neu spoke of that last year, especially after the Illinois game where he’d taken an awful sack late.

I bank on Hank

Hank won’t be the starter.
Riley is more physically talented than Hank. I think Hughes may have more “moxie” and could possibly be more confident and aggressive in big moments but he’s never played.

Its not going to happen unless Riley is injured or is just plain awful

I hope you are correct but I read that Hank was throwing bullets in practice and I think Riley needs to compete for his job. He needs to FOCUS and improve.

Competition is great and I agree with you 100%.. Riley must improve for us to have any chance. Hughes And Riley play almost exactly the same way. I only saw Hughes at one practice and in the spring game where he was playing with the threes. He has a good strong arm but not Rileys arm. Where Hughes stands out is his body language and demeanor. He is a leader, vocal and a bit cocky. I love those things in a QB and other players tend to rally behind that. I hope fall ball leads to real competition between the two.

So far, Riley has not exuded those intangible qualities you mention -demeanor, body language, cockiness. I would also say command. He just hasn’t been a presence out there. Need him to be more vocal and more emphatic and confident in his play.

Well we kinda of do that with the countless 10 yard outs we throw every game. Now some of the stuff over the middle needs to happen faster for sure. You cant put all that on Riley though receivers have to get open quicker/seperation so we are not always looking for the 3 or 4th safety valve
