It all hinges on QB, OLine, and D in my opinion. Obviously a lot of question marks! I'd be shocked if we break .500. And special teams. And coaching. And...

That used to be a strength. The kicking/punting game was atrocious last year. That and the defense needs to be vastly improved. I think the offense will be pretty good.

Clearly we have more of these ?? Than these !! Going into this season.
Its interesting how much our Cards mirror the Colts in terms of unknowns and so much riding on how our heralded QB performs. If Riley is good and finally takes that next step to become a real threat that puts other teams on their heels consistently, then we could certainly be a .500 team. If not, we could just as easily have a repeat from last year.

If we continue to call a game plan that allows for safeties and linebackers to play within 5-7 yards within the LOS most of the time we’ll continue to be a horizontal offense that gets RBs and WRs killed and tight ends too crowded to throw to. With Neu taking over play calling, and hopefully Neal more confident and assertive, maybe we can be more open and explosive.

My concern/question with all that is whether not the playbook is actually going to change It's not JUST about playing calling, it's about the playbook and the scheme. If nothing has really changed, we're going to be running the same old plays, with just a Neu person making the choice of those same old plays. Even if Neu is making the calls, isn't the playbook/scheme pretty much under the direction of the OC

Well that is a concern. If the game plans are still vanilla short horizontal stuff it won’t matter who makes the calls. I’m hoping they’ve added some more aggressive stuff to the play book, especially in light of all the WRs and TEs they’ve recruited. We still have a bunch of stud running backs we need to use well and smartly. I guess that depends on if the Oline can run block well enough. I don’t think we need to be “60 minutes of hell on turf” with the passing game, but work in some “chunk” plays in good spots. Make play action a real weapon with those backs. (Plus Riley is always a threat to break off a big run).
Simply put, have some variety and imagination.

Totally agree. I still want to see more 2 and 3 back sets. That's likely our strength, or it at least positions us better, to our strength. We need to utilize AND with more than one back in the backfield to create options as to who is going to get the ball. I'm not real smart, but if there is only one back in the backfield I still think it narrows down who is going to get the ball. You're right, variety and imagination.

Knowing who might carry offset by having to shadow backs who are spread out.
I do also like full backfield, and thought the rare occasion is worthwhile also.

Consensus predictions nationally have been 3-9/2-6 in conference. I'm guessing 3-4 wins, not that i would be satisfied or content with that. I think their ceiling if expectations were beaten is 4-4 in MAC/6-6 overall with a floor of 1-11 if another season goes way off the rails.

4-8 or 5-7....if Whit performed this poorly after this many seasons most would call for his head including me.
I understand it takes longer to turn football around but how many years?!
