The local newspapers are all dying out. That's a real loss and not really replaced by social media or internet news.

Thanks for the info and yes it is unfortunately hard on the individuals impacted and their families. The industry is suffering a slow and painful death.

People depending on social media for their news is scary. We need professional news coverage that we can depend upon. People you know and can trust. This is a sad situation.

Not only is the news you get that way simply not complete, often inaccurate, and just not giving you information you might need and have no way to count on getting without the benefit of professional, skilled news gathering, but it is without an editing role in selection and presentation. Worse it may be ONLY giving you the news you want to see or hear. Easier to tune out what you don't like to hear, which a community paper which has to appeal to many viewpoints and interests can't afford to do. Getting what you want sounds good at first, but of course is not always the way things are.
Even where there is a digital version of a local paper, if it continues as the Sentinel says it will do, it tends to fill up with the national USA Today feed or wire feed, usually has much reduced local news content, very few reporters.

We just loss the one large voice Ball State had outside of Muncie and Ft Wayne has lost The largest voice it had in the state. Sad day for both. Well, not really. The News-Sentinel, once a nice little newspaper, hasn't been much for some time, even though Davis might have wanted to claim it was. The Journal Gazette remains Fort Wayne's largest paper, although they might not care as much about Ball State. Unfortunately, many "local" papers have been bought up by distant corporations who only really care about profit margins and to achieve that they've bled those papers dry, making them little more than social media sites themselves. The combination of chasing profits and keeping up with the evolution of "news" has just been a death knell for good journalism in many small to medium sized cities, and even news-gathering operations in larger cities certainly aren't what they used to be. It's a real tragedy, which is made all the worse by the fact that so much of the public doesn't care or is unaware of what they're losing. I've felt for a while that the only way to remedy the situation is sort of a rebirth of the family newspaper or news-gathering organization, where the demand for profit might not be quite as extreme and the standard for journalism might be a bit higher. But, it would definitely have to be in a different form, considering the costs involved in presses and paper these days.

Davis threw a hissy after whit didn’t talk to him about the AZ “paying a recruit 100k” situation. Said he covered bsu out of the goodness of his heart and no one one cared. He quit any coverage of bsu after that.

We just loss the one large voice Ball State had outside of Muncie and Ft Wayne has lost The largest voice it had in the state. Sad day for both. Davis almost quit writing anything about Ball State football except negative articles after Lembo Left.. He then only wrote limited articles on basketball even had to retract two for being innaccurate. His last article he stated he would not write anymore about Ball State because he was not given first access and then went on too say no one read or cared about the BSU articles anyway.. We are not losing anything with Davis being gone.. I do feel bad about the whole the situation though and hate to see anyone lose their job. I hope he lands on his feet somewhere

I stand corrected. I do remember many BSU articles but not the ones neat the end. I only read Davis when someone on the board pointed an article out.
