Well that sucked. Have some work to do. Overall healthy. Boys had a few series they played well, but IU didn’t take anything lite scheme or intensity wise. They have talent in key spots. They’re OL definitely played well & controlled the trenches. It’s a process, still feel very positive about the future, feel this year MAC games can have positive outcomes, still will surprise some teams. Hopefully the fan base will turn out at every opportunity to support these guys. That in itself will help these guys keep after it. A good showing next Saturday will go a long way.

Congratulations to IU. They are the better team. I wish them much success the rest of the year. We are right where we expected to be this time at 1-2. Let’s regroup and get the W next weekend.

We are still young and with such a young squad you win a couple you should not and lose a few you should not. That's why upper classmen are sooooo important in the establishing team chemistry. There have to be leaders that ''straighten out'' the young players that get too full of themselves. I made my pick because there a few close to the program that made a point that the team would be ready. Clearly they were not. Live and learn my young friends.

These losses are not always bad though because you get to see whats next.. Do they get pissed and come back fighting or do they crawl into a hole and die. This should let us see what the staff and players really are.. I warned you about reading too much into the ND game and no one should have thought we were going to walk out of IU with win.. Its a step back for sure and I thought we might show better than we did but this game does not matter in the scheme of things.

Totally agree. How we respond will tell the tale for the rest of the season.

Considering where this team has been for the last few years, I kinda felt like there was a 10-20% chance of a win, and a 65-75% chance of a beat the spread. I have a hard time thinking that most felt differently coming in to this (or to ND). Heart said they could win, but head definitely saw a loss (but thought it would be a closer result). Unfortunately none of that happened.
Not a lot of positives today, outside of coming out of it reasonably healthy. Even the wins (the TD) had problems (the dumping of the ball at or near the goal line). Special teams breakdowns galore. Defense wasn't terrible, but was on the field way too much. Offense had a hard time getting in a rhythm. Some of that due to IU, but some of it was just bad play.
All that being said... The record is what most likely thought it would be after the first three games. There have been positives in the last three weeks that make me think the season will be better than I thought it would be. So that's good. We shall see how WKU goes this week. How the team comes out there might tell the tale of the season IMHO.

Ideal, we come out sharp and D looks good again. It's a competitive game.
Worst case we got behind, folded, they pour it on us, AND we suffered injuries. Hopes dashed.
Not quite
We can bounce back, but clearly we are not as good as many thought.

Question: do we not throw the ball downfield because Neu just doesn’t have confidence in Riley? Or is it because for whatever reason our most talented receivers can’t get on the field and so there no downfield threat? Or is it because the oline can’t pass block well enough? Or is it just unimaginative play calling?
Or is it a combination of all those factors? Whether it is it’s keeping the offense bottled up and predictable.

Our o-line is atrocious, and Riley just can't stay in the pocket and make the throws. The Notre Dame TV announcers nailed it when they said Riley has a very bad habit of drifting outside the tackles. He makes a bad offensive line even worse. Don't even get me started on the playcalling and atrocious special teams and fundamentals (like tackling). On top of all of that, when we do have a pocket, our WR's don't seem to get open. Meanwhile, IU had guys wide open 10-15 yards downfield all day long on 3rd and 7 or 8 type plays. IU is much more fast and athletic than Notre Dame, but we looked pathetic today. Our guys seemed to be more content to fight and showboat than actually win some plays. Gilbert should have some bench time for his antics on the goal line and then taunting the crowd after that "score". He's just lucky they didn't have a goal line camera angle on that one. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I like and have a lot of respect for Tom Allen. Notre Dame will but a distant memory when we are 1-3 after WKU handles us at home.

Well, good luck guys. Its tough. I've been on the other side of this. We just have so much better coaching and talent than years past. I still think you guys have a chance to make a bowl game. Riley Neal is good. The playcalling got Conservative but IU has one of the best DCs in the country as a HC. I think David Elson will eventually get your defense lined out. You guys are a good fanbase.

Appreciate the class. Iu is much improved in all areas. I think they can do some damage in the big 10 this year.
Our play calling going conservative is a long time issue. But maybe we were just too overmatched against the iu d today. I don’t know.

I think I asked this question last year and we never got an answer.. Im going with all the above.. Gotta hope with more MAC like competition coming we will see more shots down the field.. Here is the problem, Miller not very fast easy to cover.. Hall and LAC small targets gotta be wide open or a taller db just knocks it away.. Tyler has not been here long enough to learn offense.. Newton, Gibbs, Gillis, big receivers who cant get on the field. Riley?
