I think the bench is more of a concern than we thought it’d be. No scorers. Maybe move Mallers to the bench? The bench was supposed to be a strength.

Good win could have been better but hey its a win. Still lots to work on.. Not sure what Hazens role is but we need more from him. Gunn remains lost, really lost. Ish looked a bit better

A lot of that was about Hazen being better than he has shown. But we have 3 or 4 players who if they were playing modestly better could make a big difference.
For not seeing very much from Trey, we're OK. But bench is a disappointment so far.

Figured it out, Nijel Pack from Lawrence Central and Greg Tribble from Cincinnati All guards. To help in the post..... These are recruits to fill the guard scholarship KJ has now, for 2020

These are recruits to fill the guard scholarship KJ has now, for 2020 Pack graduates in 20 so I can sort of understand a point guard in that class, but Tribble is a combo and graduates this year. I am clueless why would still have interest in him. The last thing we need are three guards in the 2019 Class, along with Coleman as a redshirt Freshman from the 18 class. What the hell is Whitfrord doing ? There is also going to be some interest in Teague as a Grad Transfer, so he needs to hedge for that possibility as well.

Verbal Commits has Tribble down as a class of 2020 graduate. They are sometimes incorrect as with listing Dawand Jones as being a class of 2020 graduate when he really is a class of 2019. If he is indeed actually a class of 2019, and Verbal Commits has it wrong, he would need to be coming as a walk-on unless your theory on Teague leaving as a graduate transfer is correct.

The Cincinnati Enquirer and 24/7 both have him listed as a 19. It's possible he reclassified, but I don't think so. Edit: Huntington Prep also has him listed on their roster as a 19.

I agree if Tribble is a class of 2019, then it's a waste. Any chance cardsfan606 mis-identified him and it actually was someone else?

Gotta say that other than Persons and Walton, not much to be impressed by, which obviously will be an issue if not solved.
Those two are about the only players who didn't seem to be sleepwalking through most of the game, certainly the only players who wanted to dive for a ball or play defense.
Looks like Persons will have to be a true PG this year (not a bad thing); otherwise not sure anyone other than Walton will ever get a decent shot.
Chatkevicius' success today (9 points, 6 rebounds in 16 minutes) really scares me. I guess he played a lot last year but he'd only played 6 minutes this year prior to today so not sure if he was injured or suspended or what, but if this is an example of our ability to handle what is apparently an afterthought interior player on not a very good team then we are in serious trouble inside.
It's been said we took our foot off the gas late to let them back in the game. If, by that, it was meant that we put Ish in the game to play defense on Feehan, yes, then we took our foot off the gas. Otherwise, it was just crappy defense.

Yep. We are continually beat off the dribble and we can stop much inside.

I was in the house today thanks to the court side seats from Kid. Tje Feehan Kid, who is Evansville’s leading scorer is a Divsion 3 grad student transfer from Eureka College. The kid averaged 30 at the D-3 level and honestly looked pretty good for a scrawny white kid. The spread should have been around 16-20 as we missed a bunch of free throws and bunnies in the second half. Walton was great in the first half as he played under control. Wish he would have continued the same play in the second half as he disappeared. Persons, though he did not have a great offensive game today shared the Ball very well today. Mallers played really well in the second half and Teague was pretty steady. Did not get much from anyone else today as Trey had a size advantage but failed to take advantage of it. The Chech kid was a handful when he played and I kept hearing McCarty tell his guards that our inside players are soft and to get him (the chech)the ball. McCarty must have used the word “soft” a dozen times when he was roaming the sidelines. We have enough athletes and good offensive players to finish the pre season strong. I still think we are playing for the second seed but for us to separate from the other MAC teams, we have to start playing 2 good halves of basketball. Evansville is not very good but I guarantee you McCarty will find some players in the next few years.

We definitely are soft inside. Moses can't seem to finish the short ones and gets stripped often.
