We still lack in fundamentals and when we play quicker, more skilled teams we get exposed.
Certainly plenty of practice fodder coming out of today's game. Playing a Mac level team for sure.
Perimeter d kinda needs work.

The Cards take a two point lead on a bucket by Calhoun. The Cards are in the bonus the rest of the game.
Go Cards!

I'd love to see how often opponents score right after we turn it over. I'd guess it's somewhere north of 70% of the time.

Who else knew we were losing this game after we got up 60-54? Most predictable ending ever.

Looks as though Pepperdine saved their best to last. Cards down by seven with a minute to go.
Tough game. The red and white have missed several open threes in the final minutes of the game.
Go Cards!

We were in the double bonus with 10 minutes left and shot 2 free throws the rest of the way.

If we had hit just 2 of those threes the game was over. Blew it with bad defense

Easily a winnable game, missed free throws, missed shots towards the end, and a lot of loose balls and turnovers not going our way hurt. The three Pepperdine had towards the end of the game that came off of a loose ball and less than five seconds left on the shot clock was the dagger. Which if a team that good needs that big of a bs shot to get past us after they blew multiple double digit leads, I can live with that. Personally didn't think we played all that well today but still had a shot to win the game up until that three from Pepperdine. With that being said, the fact that we had a chance up until the last minute playing somewhat poorly shows me that we'll be able to play with most of, if not all, MAC teams this year. Time for whit to coach them up and get ready for Indiana state and get on another run before conference starts. Good loss if you believe in them, go cards.

Played to win, until it was snatched out of our hands. If we had shot slightly better, we would be sitting pretty right now.

Good loss? Not when you're up by 6 at that point in the game. We are just too sloppy with the ball. And is it a coincidence we fell apart when Davis came back in? He tends to hurt us more than help us. We also lack someone who can consistently make shots. The d wasn't great today for us. We are flawed in the key areas. But we do play hard and that's good.
Pepperdine is really solid. The fact we fought back and even built a lead is encouraging. That's a pleasing thing. The potential is there, now whit needs to identify who will be the consistent scorers, who will defend, and who will be the best guy to handle the ball. There's time to find those things out and narrow the rotation. I just don't know how much he can trust Davis. We still clearly need a true point. And an effective big. Moses isn't ready yet.
And for gosh sakes hit free throws.

It's not a good loss if you should have won. And it's a home game. You have a chance to beat a Pepperdine at home you better do it.

Not surprised we lost, but disappointed since we certainly had our chances.
Hitting even one of those 3s (all pretty good looks) we had between the 2- and 3-minutes marks could have made for a different outcome.
But have to give some credit to Pepperdine. That long, late 3 they threw up that went in was a killer, along with the old-fashion three-point play they had on the next possession. And it seemed like every time we went inside in those last few minutes, they were making it really tough defensively.
Know it might not have been Davis' best game but wished he would have been in in the last minute or so. At least he would have pushed the ball. I didn't see the urgency I would have expected offensively from a team that was still within striking distance. Seemed like we were operating like there was still 10 minutes on the clock.
The Tyler foul at the end of the first half might have been a bogus call, but I have to wonder why he was even trying to block a shot 35-40 feet from the basket.
Continue to be puzzled by this team's poor free throw shooting.
I know the attendance was listed at just over 2,800 (I would have guessed more), but there was a lot more energy in the building than in previous game I was able to attend (Valpo) and I don't think it was just the students' presence although that certainly helped. Hope that, despite this loss, that can be sustained and grow as we get into MAC play.

You don't get so close as to make the contact at that point. Whether he fouled or not, it wasn't a very smart play. B. Yeh, I thought the attendance was better than 2800, too. Good energy and had we gotten the win, it would have brought out more area folks. Still played so much better than what we have in the past several years and deserve more fans.
