End of the game will hopefully be a learning experience. I don't think this group truly feels the confidence they need to be a consistent winner. They missed a couple of open 3s and they shut down. Making those would have provided an exciting finish.
Pepperdine is an experienced group and that showed in the end. A good effort but now need to learn how to close out a decent team. Hopefully making progress. It was good to see them erase the 12 point lead. Let's get the Sycamores.

Closer game than the score. Disappointing.
You guys nailed it above. Pepperdine benefited from experience and their deep bench outplayed ours, again partly because they have done this before. They played VERY well to begin the game, we played hard, defended reasonably well and they shot lights out. We did not fold it up, even when they were a little lucky at the end of the half.
Second half, Pepperdine played well, but "only" well and we outplayed them for 15 minutes. We missed key shots when it counted, Pepperdine did not. Wish we had taken that 2 on 1 fast break for a layup, maybe a foul instead of trying the 3. To some extent we live by the three and here died by it.
The good news is we should now know we can win this kind of tough game, and need to learn a lesson from not doing so.
We made three good runs. Two to overcome big deficit, one a flurry to grab a lead. Needed only a little difference to sustain it. Last year's team would maybe have made perhaps one run like that, would not have had a chance to outplay a deeper team at the end.
We played hard at the end in this game, took our shots, missed, got beat. It was a key play when we missed a three, and when Peppedine got a little lucky again, got a loose ball and hit a three from 30+ with time running out on the clock, and that was a back breaker. Last year we didn't have any gas in the tank at the end would have not played D, the opponent would have not needed heroics to win.
Still disappointing, but some consolation. Pepperdine played their best game of the season, and their best player was a very good player who we did a good job on, although he killed us early.

We continue to learn from our losses and remain happy that we could have won........and we're always coming up against those darn opponents who play their best game of the season ......
Now why would I NOT continue to be an optimistic Cardinal supporter? What am I thinking? We're just about to turn this thing around!

Randy Quaid would've been a great role model for some of our posters to the MBB board. youtu.be/xAZU6DYwTDM

Yeah, yeah, no team is good enough for some. They are forced to deny obvious improvement. Deny the reality that good things are going on.
Don't know why they call themselves a Ball State fan. Those who don't let themselves enjoy the season and see a good future ahead can keep believing the worse, that nothing good can happen.
But, only if they really want to keep blinders on.
There is a pretty big risk that the smug negativity will not wear so well, even this season. Already we are exceeding their dire doom and gloom predictions, and they are forced to dig harder and harder and stretch the truth uncomfortably to keep face. Too much to like about this team to keep that up, but I know some have a big investment in selling short.
I'd recommend hedging that bet.

Like Ive said before I am holding off judgment until I see some MAC games. It does seem like we are better. We are at least more competitive so far the only thing surprising that has happened was us beating Valpo. The other games I could have seen going either way and I would have not been surprised.

I can't take any thread seriously when I see Calhoun's little rainbow-farting unicorn in it.

Just to show my age, I heard Lamont Murray Jr announced for Pepperdine and spent 10 minutes trying to determine if his dad played for us.
Apparently, I have morphed Lamont Roland and Josh Murray together and thought they had a kid in the greater Los Angeles area.
I think this team is fun to watch, which is an enormous step forward from my limited viewings over the past 7 years.

I can't take any thread seriously when I see Calhoun's little rainbow-farting unicorn in it. Calhoun's graphic called your bet and raised it, but you can hardly complain about serious contributions to the forum on that count. You reap what you sowed in your post Nov 27 when you introduced the term...
