It's what's going to happen on the other 1,300 days of that term that I would worry about. Apart from comparing himself to Lincoln and other routine Trump untruths, Trump did better this time, beating expectation. That is true.
But the virus exchange is not just debate rhetoric, it is actually performance by a head of government that is harming the country. Biden was far more accurate on the topic but still way too vague on the virus and its potential for disaster. He should have talked much more specifically about the numbers, and also nailed the governors who are putting their head in the sand, and they are complicit in the harm that it is potentially worse than most of us have worried about.
At least not in the next few months. That statement continues his dangerous misinformation campaign about the virus and is killing people. When Trump says that somebody needs to ask what reason they have to think it is true and how do they square increasing hospital admissions and the inevitable increase in death that lags case count and admission.
I have been gloomy about the prospects for the next couple of months but the best model projection is worse than I have feared. I am hoping the admissions are mostly for younger people who do better in the hospital and have lower chance to go on ventilators, but the model does take some of that into account.
It's sad but even in the next two weeks, Trump and the governors could do better and after the election I hope they come around.
Holcomb needs to back Indiana up to stage 3 or 4 right away, the GOP governors across the northern part of the country are by and large not doing as good a job as he is. But he and other GOP governors are unlikely to do anything that admits the situation is approaching a critical point and needs action, at least not doing so before the election. That is going to cause unnecessary death, and it comes down to the rather ridiculous result of public health strategy like masks becoming a political symbol.

Someone was mentioning deflection earlier in the thread, but I get it, who can compete with Abraham Lincoln?
After all our President is losing fewer troops in his wartime Presidency than Lincoln!
And what can go wrong from here?

Well Trump and Lincoln both thought it was a good idea to send people back to their original homeland.

Well orange and Lincoln both thought it was a good idea to send people back to their original homeland. Lincoln did not ultimately choose that solution in response to the popular opinion at the time.
He opted to change the state of the productive previous "non citizens" and give them legal franchise.
True enough there was still xenophobia and prejudice against immigrants continuing to the present in the United States but increasingly post Civil War we became a melting pot nation and benefited greatly from that.
The mindset and racist beliefs of the early 19th Century doesn't seem like the part of Lincoln's history we should consider the lesson of his life, and certainly should not reintroduce that debate topic in 21st Century public policy.

In the debate, Orange probably should have taken time to explain to the audience what references to the laptop and the $3.5 million received from the wife of the former major of Moscow were all about. These aspects of Sleepy's corruption are never even talked about on CNN and other MSM. Orange should have pointed out emails on Hunter's laptop have now been confirmed by former business partners and the US Senate has proof of wireline transfers from the wife of the former wife of the Mayor of Moscow.

In the debate, Orange probably should have taken time to explain to the audience... I just don't think scandal comparison is going to win. He needed to say what he wants to do, not just recycle MAGA from last time. Run on his record. He's incumbent with a record. Some good, a lot not. Most people aren't interested in laptop emails when they see a poor record on the virus, don't see him ramming a stimulus through, not getting them health care he has sued to take away and has no plan to replace. Issues he could explain instead of saying everything is perfect. They might also buy this better if it wasn't a rerun and if his administration had not featured so many scandals of its own. It would help if they saw him busting ass working instead of whining on Twitter about plots against him. And how mean Leslie Stahl and the reporters are. He's got a huge credibility problem.

I thought President beat expectations, so he wins debate by split decision.
Polls of debate viewers say Joe won.(probably reflects more Joe supporters viewed, probably because there are more supporters..) Polls of registered voters say so too.
It means it was close, but minds made up, most now see what they want to see.
Last time a lot wanted change. Wanted outsider. Maybe got too much of it and too much Donald show.

BTW it seems if you post using "orange " name the forum software substitutes word "orange."
No T-word...
Also it substitutes "Sleepy" for Joe's family name.
So it is now Ivanka Trump and Hunter Biden, too...

Whether transmission is droplet or airborne, the message to the public is the same: Wear a mask. With airborne there's just the threat of it hanging in the air longer, traveling farther. Not sure when the CDC has gone back and forth on this, but hospitals from the start were treating it as airborne. There is bad news that masks may be the only or the best way to fight the virus. A cultural change to make us more like Japan where we mask up anytime we are sick and it could mean wearing masks frequently for prevention of spread could be an annual rite we need to observe during Covid season(s).
The immunity doesn't even last through one extended season. Not conclusive study but it is evidence about asymptomatic infection and persistence of antibodies. Which would apply to vaccination potentially.
That would lead us to needing multiple vaccinations in a season, or delaying vaccination to cold weather at least, but probably would mean continuing to use masks and distancing much more than we have this year, and needing to test community prevalence of virus to know where we should be worried.

All has returned normal....Fucking Gremlins You think you can define normal for this group?
You sound like an optimistic government public health official. Worse it is in this case mental health and we have had a long time pandemic on this and predecessor forums. It is out of control and no vaccine in sight.
