I talked to Indiana Central (UIndy) about playing football but they told me and my dad that my HS grades would put me on immediate probation and thus prohibit me from playing football. I then decided to go to Ball State, got accepted, and walked on to the wrestling team. The coach took interest in me and encouraged me to stick with the walk on as I showed some skills. However when the first quarter grades came out that ended my wrestling career! My dad said it was time to hang up the wrestling shoes and get a good college education. That was some of the best advice he never gave me as I focused on my grades and ended up doing pretty well and graduated with decent grades.

A lot of athletes don't get that advice and need it. A lot not smart enough to take it.

Got car and girl crazy once I got my license and that was it for athletics. Fast cars and semi-loose women were my downfall. Then as a student at a small midwestern college...oh wait that was Penthouse forum. Never mind. And then he decided he'd better join the army before he got drafted

I would be curious as to who on the board actually played basketball in high school. I would be one. Though my love and my head was for basketball, I learned around 8th grade that I couldn't physically compete with Chandler, Ced, Sam, Vic, Billy, et all for spots on that team (well, I really knew before that, but 8th and 9th was when it finally settled in for good). Thus, baseball and football were my HS sports. Could have played baseball in college (had offers) but chose not to. Injuries barred me from pursuing football at that level.

Oh sure, use the “I couldn’t physically compete with Chandler and all those other studs” excuse. Like you couldn’t jump over a car too.

Nah, I thought from reading this forum that failure of a player was always that he was from Indiana and just didn't have good coaching.

My new starting lineup: Cochran, Jones, Bum, Windham, Sparks. If you want to talk starting lineups you should make a new topic for it rather than derailing the conversation here.

If only we could figure out what the topic really is more easily rather than reading all these posts.

My new starting lineup: Cochran, Jones, Bum, Windham, Sparks. Why use a player we have actually seen play? Counting Jones, we probably have 6 newcomers, more than enough for a lineup. It's just a detail we don't know who the last addition will be. I'll pencil him in as a starter.

If ever in doubt on the appropriate topic, just post on either Bane or Longwood and your posts will always be welcome in any thread.

* lightly recruited slow-footed big guy *big guy who hangs around the perimeter *some transfer who sees little competition for PT *some guy whose name I can't remember *Bumbalough Having now seen how huge the transfer thing is this year, I would adjust my predicted line up by replacing some guy whose name I can't remember with another some transfer who sees little competition for PT. And it wouldn't surprise me at all if a third some transfer who sees little competition for PT takes over one of the other spots also.
