Liberty has an enrollment of 79,000 ..............I would have missed that by a mile. Made me wonder if they are taking liberties with their reporting requirements. I guess they are free to do so. 47,000 undergraduate, 32,000 graduate, predominantly on-line students. Not bad for a school founded in 1971. That on-line tuition is fueling their athletic facilities growth (private school accounting), similar to Grand Canyon University. Both want to be parochial powerhouses like ND and BYU.

How is Gonzaga different in any important substantive way from private schools in the Big East? They are in a mid major conference and have an easier schedule. True enough. That goes back to the absence of a Big East quality conference existing for them to join on the left coast. Before the Big East was created those schools forming the conference were major powers in basketball. Whatever their conference affiliation. Mid major conference is a very good description of over 100 D1 schools. NOT of the Gonzaga team despite that conference affilliation.
Assuming they were located in Myrtle Beach, they would likely be in the Big East and a "major." They have equal resources for basketball are similar institutions in other ways, including lack of FB investment...
"Sort of" a mid major, don't you agree? "Sort of" a high major too.

How was UCLA a 9-loss, play in game team? They look every bit like a legit 1 seed.

Awfully good guards for BU. Nobody is going to stop them. But Gonzaga sure can score too.
Gonzaga survived UCLA playing a really good game. They benefited from that. Their center is fun to watch with the ball. Really a good passer, clever around the basket.
Having no real favorite team in either game, these two games were such good games it was easy to enjoy them anyway. Fun tournament with so many teams being upset, even with UCLA getting to yet another Final Four.

Baylor put an absolute ass pounding on Gonzaga. It was like watching Longwood out there the way they bent the Zags over!

And yet, which statement is more valid?
"Gonzaga nearly won the NCAA men's basketball championship this year"
or
"Ball State has nearly made the NCAA Tournament under James Whitford"

And yet, which statement is more valid? "Gonzaga nearly won the NCAA men's basketball championship this year" or "Ball State has nearly made the NCAA Tournament under James Whitford" Both are true, with Gonzaga having a little more truth. So let the record say, “nearly won an ncaa title” rather than “got sent back to Uranus by Baylor in the title game.” How the banner should be worded is clear. Our banner lists 8 years Whitford nearly made the ncaa tourney. Impressive!

Well, if Baylor can go from players murdering each other to a national title in 18 years, I guess it's not impossible for us, right?
Right?

I was going to post about we can commiserate with Gonzaga when it comes to almost, but not quite reaching your goal.
