Well, if Baylor can go from players murdering each other to a national title in 18 years, I guess it's not impossible for us, right? Right? Will have to step up that giving to the basketball program, and of course relocate our campus to a seaside setting.
That is not impossible.
Have to set high goals or never achieve them.

Waco Texas is located near the ocean ? You know that is an excellent point.
But in any case, I think we might still need the seaside setting to offset our lack of sports history, a billion dollar endowment and national reputation. I know, I know, they have only been 25 years in the B12, and we're ready to make that up, with our MAC football dominance!
Still, even though we are comparing to a li'l ol' private school we might need an edge. This is probably a bigger job than matching Butler or Gonzaga.
But we can do it. High expectations and goals make it easy.

I know we aren't headed toward a national title so the only conclusion I can think of is that we are headed in the opposite direction. Considering the potential direction of the program, maybe that's why Mearns loves Whitford. 8 years of nearly making the NCAA Tournament. 2 MAC tournament victories 0 murders When you put things in perspective it's easy to see Jimmy's appeal. I mean how many college coaches are there who haven't had to deal with murders on their team.

BTW, I am fully onboard with moving the BSU campus to a seaside location.

You are easily satisfied, though, I want that beachfront college town thing. But still yours is a good a good point.
BSU in a suburban Indianapolis environment would have a very much better chance to move on up. As much as I like living in a college town, when it comes to sports doing well for a mid major, it looks like location near larger population works better.

Yeah it's hard to keep kids from dreaming about places like Buffalo and Athens Ohio.

Yeah it's hard to keep kids from dreaming about places like Buffalo and Athens Ohio. Buffalo is a better funded school precisely because it serves a good sized population and is not a city like Muncie in decline, providing a decent market to boost sports revenue from attendance, local alumni and some corporate support.
I agree Athens only looks like an urban area if you are from Appalachia, which is sort of where they are, so you may have a case they are an outlier. Nice little college town other than its awful location. We'll see how they do as Ohio cuts support for higher ed and the University declines. It is the biggest employer in Athens. And, as they raise tuition and cut programs they may find themselves losing enrollment.
Ohio U does have some success without the advantages of a better market. OTOH they have been better funded historically than BSU. That has supported some good academic programs and their athletic programs are reasonably well funded. Not sure where they generate all the money for their athletic programs. May have more loyal alumni. May get more students and more townspeople to games than we do, because they are more the only game in town. It is a longer trip home for most student...
Anyway, It is a good case to watch if you are going to champion small college towns in the middle of nowhere as a model for mid major success. I am going to stick with my theory that a bigger market helps enrollment, alumni support and gate revenue.
