200 college men's programs
23 NCAA D1 25 NCAA D2 107 NCAA D3 43 NAIA
No idea about the salaries for coaches, or how NAIA compares in quality with NCAA programs.
He is obviously good at his level where GV is dominant.

Yeah if anyone has any insight that would be nice. I thought for sure we could get someone from D2 and maybe D1 if we were lucky. Nothing against the NAIA, but the level of competition is night and day.

WHAT A RECORD!!!!! I have been making a case for a small college coach for our basketball program that can teach the game of basketball to the recruits we bring in. Maybe that is what the Volleyball Gods are doing at Ball State. Knowing nothing of this coach other than his record I will refer you to Bill Parcels the ole football coach by reminding you that he says,'You are what your record says you are''. This guy's record tells me he is a winner.. Welcome to Ball State University. We are all happy to have you as a Cardinal.

Don't disagree with you, but how is one making a jump like that able to make the decision on a player being capable of playing at the D1 Level That seems like a real tough process in that kind of a jump.

GV (Iowa), not GVS (Michigan).

I truly believe at this level (mid-major) in most sports we need instructors, teachers if you will, that can teach techniques and the basics to many of the recruits we can draw to Muncie. At the NAIA level I would imagine he was getting good athletes who had to be taught and developed. That's what is needed in Muncie. As much as I disliked Bob Knight he said in an interview I saw that he wanted his practices the most interesting ''class'' his players attended that day. That is the attitude we need in Muncie. I am very excited about this hire. We all welcome Coach Cruz to Ball State. I am positive that Ball State's volleyball tradition is headed in the right direction.

I have no idea how this hire will turn out, however, I like that AD Goetz seems willing to think outside the box, so to speak. This hire seems kind of remindful of the new basketball HC Indiana State brought in; highly successful at DIV II, a risk, yes, but with a good track record. Time will tell. Best of luck Coach Cruz.

Heard great things about Coach Cruz from former USA Olympic Coach and BSU graduate Mick Haley. That is good enough for me!

There may be some insight here on what type of hire Beth will make when she replaces Whitford.

There may be some insight here on what type of hire Beth will make when she replaces Whitford. I am not so sure about that. It's a lot more likely we squeeze all salaries, that is true. Pretty likely FB and BB get squeezed less.
Although not as bad as it might have been , the Athletic Budget is going to be tight. I'd worry more though about budget for assistant coaches.
