NBC's coverage had an overriding theme attached and it failed miserably to connect with viewers. CBS did the same thing with their Super Bowl pre-game coverage this year. They just can't help puffing out their sanctimonious chests and puking their glib wokeness all over us at every opportunity. SB did have recognition of social consciousness of the players in the wake of Black Lives activism. That was pretty intense politics, a bigger deal and a more intense emotional issue for them. I didn't see that as the event theme though. Just a small part, not central to the network coverage either. The Olympic coverage failed covering the sports, SB did pretty well. That's the difference I noticed. Everyone's political stances are important and emotional to themselves. Some people are able to function in society without continually shoving their politics in everyone's faces....and some people are not.

Sure. Here I thought it was about the players and relevant coverage. Easy to overdo I agree.

www.aol.com/sports/olympics-opening-ceremony-draws-record-011318426.html"NBC is facing a cataclysmic loss of audience for the 2022 Winter Olympics as viewership tanked for Friday’s Opening Ceremony, averaging just 16 million. It is a record low for the Opening Ceremony (20.1 million for 1988 in Calgary was the previous record) and a whopping 43 percent below the 2018 Games in South Korea that notched 28.3 million viewers despite also dealing with a less than advantageous Asian time zone for American audiences. It comes on the heels of Thursday’s ratings disaster that saw just 7.7 million people tune in, dramatically below same-night audiences of 2018 (16 million) and 2014 from Russia (20.02 million)."

I love the Winter Olympics, but I refuse to watch one second of games hosted by one of the most oppressive regimes on the planet.
China has gotten away with far too much for far too long. Human rights violations, intellectual property being stolen, not to mention creating and releasing a pandemic that has cost all of us so much.
They can fuck right off.

I have very little interest in the winter olympics. There are only a handful of events I enjoy. Hockey, Curling, Speed Skating, and Snowboard are about it. And I'm just to busy these days to invest any time in sitting around watching the games waiting for something I like to come on.
Also fuck China

Just one of the reasons I no longer enjoy the Olympics........... "On January 27, the Chinese men’s ice hockey team roster was finalized, confirming that the 24 players representing the country would all be players from the Kunlun Red Star. Final count? Eleven Canadian players, nine Chinese, three Americans, and a Russian. While having nine out of 24 players actually originating from China doesn’t seem half bad for a country that had barely heard of ice hockey six years ago, a closer look at the statistics reveals to what extent the national team relies on foreign athletes to remain even remotely competitive. A common metric in the world of hockey statistics is “points” – the sum of goals and assists accrued by a given player. In the 2020-2021 KHL season, the 24 members of the Chinese Olympic team accumulated a total of 198 points. Of those points, 99.5 percent were racked up by foreigners (the single Chinese point was a goal scored by forward Rudi Ying). Just by looking at the top three players – Spencer Foo, Tyler Wong, and Brandon Yip, all of Canada – you can account for 44 percent of the team’s points." thediplomat.com/2022/02/china-recruited-canadians-to-avoid-embarrassment-on-olympic-ice/

I'm not up on all the courts and panels and committees that get involved in this shit anymore, but its just seems the IOC has no balls anymore regarding doping and such with the Russian figure skating teen being allowed to compete after her positive test for banned substances.
This coming after the whole Russian national Olympic program was banned for widespread doping ... oh, but then allowed to compete under the flag of the Russian Olympic Committee. Yeah, way to put your foot down IOC.
Meanwhile, how many competitors from other countries have been kept from competing or stripped of medals because of positive tests?
