I had never heard of Michigan Tech before, but jeez, does their campus ever have a nice setting. Of course it would take forever to drive anywhere at all, and the winters would be long, dark and cold. Maybe if you were into some sort of winter sport, it could be OK.

I have visited there in the winter. Very long and very cold at times, and it is dark. The snow cover helps on that.
Easier to get around on most of the UP in the Winter than Delaware County with 1/2" of snow. But don't go off the road, and you can get snowed in for a day or so outside town.
But why talk about travel, it is on the UP and there is nowhere to go. It is VERY far away from civilization. Yoopers are a different breed, consider themselves a different state, and naturally they consider all these things pluses. Summer for about 6 weeks is black flies and mosquitos so loving Winter may make some sense.
They do love hunting and fishing. In or out of season. Poaching is their state sport I think.
