Win or lose I’m not sure these games are more than a scrimmage. By the way, tonight’s loss likely means no more than beating Wright State in a scrimmage last week Sure, but we still shouldn’t be losing at home to Michigan Tech, whatever you want to call the game.

You has to be there to see how bad it was

Apparently they aren't going to post stats for this game, can't really blame them.

Cochran plays with a ton of energy on both sides but missed 15 layups
Sellers based on tonight only can be very good
Bumb was good but typical ended up with his normal 12ish points.. Hits some big shots late
Thomas was the bad thomas
Sparks got worked by a d2 center who ended up with about 20. He did have a couple nice offensive plays
Hendricks and Huggins are injured but looked great in the pregame dunk contest as did Jones
Jones Acree Soukas never removed warm ups
Jacobs looked quick but lost his minutes quickly to seller
Windham did nada
Pearson is long but did not do much he is hesitant to shoot

We had to have shot under 30% probably 3 of 20 something from three and missed 25 lay ups. Defensively we gave up a shit ton of threes and allowed alot of easy baskets off middle cuts

He is surprisingly quick.
Windham Jacobs, may have played better than you give them credit for. But nobody shot very well, and yes, Sparks was a sieve on defense. Not so much when behind his man in the post as in losing his man before the entry to the post. When he came out high he was OK until there was a screen, then toast, not switching effectively and not challenging the pass after a ball screen and just generally not being aware of what was going on.
My gripe was no offensive rebounding by an athletic team, and that everyone seemed to have a green light to shoot. Pearson was particularly ineffective, I wish he had been more hesitant...not rush his shot so much.

They did not do anything really bad but also did not do anything good.

It was more of the same though. How many times can we say we just did not shoot well. We just don't get good shooters. We just watched a bunch of slow white dudes drop three after three on our heads

They did not do anything really bad but also did not do anything good. I think shot selection was pretty bad. Much of it was trying to play fast and not playing 5 guys together for long. Too many lineups to tell much about how good they can be.
Michigan Tech on the other hand just hit too many 3's as the shot clock was running down. We defended pretty hard, and had some good defensive stands that ended that way. On offense, they had good discipline and got their best shooters the shots. We did not get much chance to get out on the break as they made baskets.

We did play what 9 guys jihad got about 5 minutes so really about 8. That's pretty normal but let's not forget it was against a d2 school not known for basketball.
Maybe we clean it up and end up being good. We are deff more athletic but if you can't harness that and figure out a way to get it in the hoop then we're going to suck
No way to spin this there was nothing good or inspiring about tonight.. Except Sellers

It was the number of players we played it was the number of combinations and frequent substitutions. No continuity on offense.
I liked the athleticism, did not like not utilizing it more on defense. And on offensive glass. Room to improve on both.
We often defended well enough early in possessions. Then just lost somebody.
When we sustained pressure, Michigan Tech deserves some credit for handling the ball well, but if they'd not hit those late possession 3s, even shooting badly we'd have have won an ugly game decent margin.
Effort was good generally, both teams. Tech slapped the ball away and we coughed a few up, we could improve there.

So in other words we played like a team that doesn't really get after it in practice. Same thing, different season.

Not to worry, not to worry. After this brutal pre conference schedule is over, BSU will have the teams picked 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th in the western division with them. There will be enough wins to give Whitford, and the administration, talking points for future MSP articles, and grounds for further extensions.
It's not like BSU will be facing stacked, powerhouse programs like Michigan Tech, which has so many resource and money advantages over BSU, and benefits so much from being smack in the middle of the basketball recruiting hotbed that is the Upper Peninsula.
